PURPOSE:
The Dorcas Outreach Center for Kids (DOCK) provides a safe gathering place and nurturing environment for students after school and during the summer. The DOCK Teen Program Manager will lead effective after-School and summer programming for middle and high school students (grades 6 - 12). Primary duties and responsibilities fall in the categories of mentoring, academic coaching, and program development. The DOCK Teen Program Manager will provide emotional, spiritual, and behavioral support to program participants while acting as a liaison to the home and school.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare Youth for Success
Create an environment that fosters academic learning, career planning, faith development, and other enrichment activities ● Implement the structure and curriculum for the afterschool and summer programs for middle and high school students. ● Reinforce program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission. ● Oversee day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals. ● Ensure programs, services and activities that prepare youth for success, promoting safety of members and quality in programs at all times. ● Provide guidance and build meaningful and positive mentor relationships with program participants. ● Help guide youth to outside resources so they can meet their academic and life goals. ● Facilitate communication between others (i.e. parents, guardians, school and church officials, scholarship mentors) whose input and resources are critical to the success of program participants. ● Set up and maintain accurate individual participant records. ● Assist program participants in developing academic success plans that promote educational, emotional, behavioral, and social growth. ● Monitor and record the growth and development of program participants. ● Support program participants by offering guidance, counseling, and preparation for independence. ● Engage and disciple program participants through worship, teaching, fellowship, and serving/community outreach projects. ● Encourage spiritual growth through daily programming and services. ● Address and manage discipline issues promptly and serve as the key communicator in conveying issues to parents/guardians. ● Plan, organize and lead off-site field trips.
Program Development and Implementation
Oversee program planning and implementation: ● Work cooperatively with program support staff and volunteers to implement the program in a successful, structured fashion. ● Plan, organize, and implement programs for teens which are developmentally appropriate and significantly different from the DOCK children’s program. Teen programs should emphasize more privileges, responsibility, greater input and ownership. ● Ensure that the daily program places priority on academic achievement ● Ensure that the weekly program includes Christian discipleship - effectively teaching core Christian beliefs, providing an atmosphere in which teens can explore what they believe, and giving them opportunities to put their faith into action ● Plan, organize, and implement a fun, engaging and impactful activities for teens ● Ensure the involvement of teens in the development and implementation of programs and activities that meet their specific needs and interests. ● Create and/or facilitate prevention/intervention programs to address bullying, self harm, tobacco usage, drugs and alcohol ● Ensure that programs/activities address the gender and cultural diversity of teen participants ● Develop collaborative relationships with other community partners for the purpose of establishing supportive services for program participants ● Recruit guest speakers and volunteers who are capable of making positive connections with teens. ● Assist with coordinating and/or facilitating educational, vocational, and life-skill programming, workshops, etc. ● Complete and maintain assigned program monitoring tools ● Collect, track and analyze data to evaluate metrics and/or as required by grant sourcesAssist with NUB special events ● Uphold and adhere to program objectives, policies, and operating procedures ● Perform assigned administrative duties and reports in a timely manner ● Maintain a high degree of confidentiality ● Provide referrals to other community resources as needed. ● Ensure facilities are clean, organized, welcoming and conducive to learning.
Family and Community Engagement
Create meaningful partnerships by building trust, collaboration and engagement. ● Ensure ongoing, intentional, and meaningful engagement with families (i.e. parents/guardians). ● Maintain clear, consistent and frequent communication with families (i.e. parents/guardians). ● Create opportunities to collaborate and engage with families (i.e. parents/guardians). ● Help families identify and connect with additional resources as needed. ● Cultivate and maintain relationships with community stakeholders ● Build strong working relationships with school partners to better meet the emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of the students; including meeting with students’ teachers, administrators, and other staff on a regular basis. ● Actively participate in NUB community engagement and fundraising activities. ● Assist with NUB special events as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree, from an accredited college or university (preferably related to education or social services) strongly preferred ● Minimum three years’ experience working in youth development to include working with diverse, low income and underserved youth or related human service experience ● Ability to interact effectively with diverse people in different contexts and foster equity and inclusion through self-awareness, cultural sensitivity, and valuing others ● Ability to set behavioral limits and expectations while maintaining positive interactions ● Demonstrated professionalism in the areas of time management and communication ● Interpersonal skills, including listening, conflict resolution, and relating well in a diverse environment ● Written and oral communication skills, including public speaking ● Ability to give feedback in a positive and solution-focused way ● Awareness and understanding of the principles of Christian community development and the mission of NUB ● Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, internet browser, email, and calendar) ● Experience with databases ● Ability to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to, computers, telephone systems, calculators, printers, scanners, copiers and facsimile machines ● Ability to follow oral and written instructions
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work performed primarily in an office environment using standard office equipment, Monday – Friday. Occasional evening, weekend or remote work required to include attending, planning, and organizing evening and weekend activities for program participants and their families. Must be able to travel locally to attend meetings and training. Work performed may require engagement with challenging individuals. COVID-19 protocols require masking in the office whenever the COVID-19 community level for Brevard County is ranked as high. Business casual dress required.
