Neighborhood House Charter School is Hiring a Behavioral Aide Near Boston, MA
This position is a 10 month, school year only position. The hours are 7:45 a.m. - 4 p.m. at our Queen St. campus. The pay range is $20-25 an hour.
Role And ResponsibilitiesDuties include, but are not limited to:
- Provides intense monitoring of student behavior as indicated on the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP);
- Supervises student(s) at all times as indicated on the IEP, to ensure the safety of the student(s), peers, and adults;
- Provides support in crisis situations using district-approved safety/restraint protocol when a student becomes a harm to him/herself or others;
- Provides verbal support, prompting, redirection and modeling in helping the student(s) access the activities of the curriculum;
- Assists with conducting student assessments as directed by classroom teacher(s), Behavior Analyst; or support staff;
- Provides overall support to the classroom teacher(s) and student(s), based on the needs of the classroom and the students’ Individual Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plans, if applicable;
- Assists classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) in preparing lessons and related materials;
- Incorporates knowledge of student learning styles, child development, and skills/knowledge acquisition rates of the student(s) to whom assigned to assist student learning.
- Observes and records academic, behavioral and social data to measure progress;
- Recognizes when teaching/learning and behavioral strategies are not successful and seeks the guidance of the classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) to adapt assistance accordingly;
- If assignment requires, provides direct assistance to students to manage personal care; and
- Other duties, as required.
- Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Prior experience working with children in a school setting
- Experience working with children on the Autism spectrum or children with emotional or behavioral disorders
- ABA experience preferred
- Stand and sit for sustained periods of time
- See and read a computer screen and printed materials with our without vision aids
- Hear and understand speech at normal office and classroom levels and on the telephone
- Focus on one source of sound and not another
- Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal office and classroom settings and on the telephone
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent repetitive motion with hands, wrists, arms and shoulders.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs
Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
