Neighborhood House Charter School is Hiring a Behavioral Aide Near Boston, MA

Job OverviewUnder the direction of the Student Support Coordinator, the Behavioral Aide will provide one-on-one student support as needed to assist in facilitating communication, increasing social skills, academic skills, self-help skills and promoting independence.
This position is a 10 month, school year only position. The hours are 7:45 a.m. - 4 p.m. at our Queen St. campus. The pay range is $20-25 an hour.
Role And ResponsibilitiesDuties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides intense monitoring of student behavior as indicated on the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP);
  • Supervises student(s) at all times as indicated on the IEP, to ensure the safety of the student(s), peers, and adults;
  • Provides support in crisis situations using district-approved safety/restraint protocol when a student becomes a harm to him/herself or others;
  • Provides verbal support, prompting, redirection and modeling in helping the student(s) access the activities of the curriculum;
  • Assists with conducting student assessments as directed by classroom teacher(s), Behavior Analyst; or support staff;
  • Provides overall support to the classroom teacher(s) and student(s), based on the needs of the classroom and the students’ Individual Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plans, if applicable;
  • Assists classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) in preparing lessons and related materials;
  • Incorporates knowledge of student learning styles, child development, and skills/knowledge acquisition rates of the student(s) to whom assigned to assist student learning.
  • Observes and records academic, behavioral and social data to measure progress;
  • Recognizes when teaching/learning and behavioral strategies are not successful and seeks the guidance of the classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) to adapt assistance accordingly;
  • If assignment requires, provides direct assistance to students to manage personal care; and
  • Other duties, as required.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Prior experience working with children in a school setting
  • Experience working with children on the Autism spectrum or children with emotional or behavioral disorders
  • ABA experience preferred

  • Stand and sit for sustained periods of time

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent repetitive motion with hands, wrists, arms and shoulders.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs
