The CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Operator will support the creation of low volume and one-of-a-kind parts from a variety of materials. The role will work with customers following projects through multiple phases from receipt of concept to delivery of finished product. The CNC Operator will use CNC machines and follow various inspection processes to achieve desired outcomes. This position is based in Farmington, MI and is a 2nd shift (start time is 4:30pm and typically works 8-10 hours per day Mon-Fri Saturday at times).
As a CNC Operator, you will be responsible for:
  • Operate CNC machines, lathes and mills, making multiple passes until desired outcome is attained
  • Inspect quality using common shop equipment, and adjust material, fixturing, or tooling
  • Select appropriate material stock, and manually cut to working size
  • Load material into CNC machines, apply fixturing, and select tooling
  • Machine fixtures and jigs to support process
  • Support multi-phase CNC machining process including troubleshooting, design changes, and issue resolution
  • Prep, inspect, finish, and join parts using manual equipment and hand tools
  • Maintain machinery, tools, and equipment in a clean and organized state
  • Submit requests for restocking materials or supplies
To be considered for a CNC Operator, you will need:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • No previous experience required
  • Basic knowledge of shop tools including bandsaw, sander, drill press and inspection equipment
  • Ability to use MS Office products and manage files
  • Good communication skills
A successful candidate may also have:
  • Associate degree in Advanced Manufacturing or related field
  • Experience with 3D printing or Additive Manufacturing
  • Experience with 3-axis milling operations
  • Experience with Industry Standard Software applications, such as Tebis, Mastercam, WorkNC, CATIA or AutoCAD
  • Experience with polymer or metal model making
  • Knowledge of 3-axis milling operations
  • Ability to edit G&M code using machine controller
  • Basic knowledge of manual grinding (internal (ID)/outer diameter (OD), surface grinding, rotary), honing, lapping, mill, lathe
  • Knowledge of model making, mold making, metal fabrication, and composites
  • Ability to learn and use 3D scanning methods for quality inspection
  • Ability to become International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) certified
