Job Overview

The Director, Project Development will play a crucial role in the oversight, implementation, and development of NET Power utility-scale power generation projects. The ideal candidate for this role will have a background in mechanical or chemical engineering and demonstrated experience in power generation project development. In addition, this candidate must have experience in project application engineering support, power generation project management, and a thorough understanding of energy markets and regulations.

This position will sit in either our Houston, TX or Durham, NC office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative project development and execution strategies for new NET Power plant originated projects and market strategy.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, project managers, and the origination and commercial operations teams to ensure the successful implementation and deployment of NET Power generation facilities from early-stage conception through EPC mobilization and the construction phase.
  • Support origination team with early-stage project pre-feasibility qualification and market assessments.
  • Work with origination to evaluate project business cases, estimate returns and budgets.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimates, and environmental impact assessments for new power generation projects.
  • Lead the early-stage analysis and evaluation of all required interconnections and utility tie-ins for a NET Power plant during the feasibility and pre-FEED stages and develop collaborate workstreams with internal and external stakeholders to identify needs and solutions, as required.
  • Lead power interconnection application preparation and process management.
  • Work with NET Power application engineering and commercial operations teams to ensure successful implementation of our standardized power island in localized climates/ ambient conditions and infrastructure.
  • Lead and manage EPC Consortium partners, bid strategies, contracting of third-party project development services, and power island project implementation, including construction.
  • Manage the permitting process and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental standards in generation processes.
  • Keep up to date with advancements in power generation technologies and recommending improvements to existing systems.
  • Lead the project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and technological advancements in power generation to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in the development and deployment of new projects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, utilities, and community members, to create awareness of NET Power and support the development of new projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (mechanical or chemical), Business, Environmental Science or a related field.
  • 10 years professional experience in the energy industry preferably in developing and constructing utility scale thermal power generation projects.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments under time constraints.
  • Solutions focused team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to work independently with direction on a regular basis.
  • Experience preparing, negotiating and closing commercial agreements including development agreements, real estate agreements, consulting and service agreements, interconnection and power sales agreements, etc.
  • Experience in the siting, permitting and interconnection of electric power projects.

  • Work effectively in an office environment.
  • Operate at a computer and sit for long periods of time.
  • Repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers.
  • Position is sedentary with occasional light lifting.
