Position Description: Associate Scientist

Factor Bioscience is seeking an exceptional candidate to join our Translational Science team in Cambridge, MA. This position is full-time and will support the development of advanced mRNA and cell-based medicines. In this role, successful candidates will support the development of next-generation cell therapies for the treatment of a large variety of illnesses, including cancer, blood disorders, neurological conditions, and/or monogenic diseases.

Job Summary:

Successful candidates will be responsible for performing daily lab activities, including assistance with various cell line development procedures, adherence to a defined Quality Management System, proper design and execution of scientific experiments, as well as effective interpretation and communication of experimental findings. Potential candidates must be willing to learn and employ a broad range of experimental techniques. Furthermore, this position requires enthusiasm, passion, self-motivation, excellent problem-solving skills, a high level of organization, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Design, optimize, and execute mammalian cell culture procedures and experiments.
• Perform genetic manipulation of mammalian cells (via electroporation or transfection of mRNA).
• Perform molecular and biochemical techniques as well as cell-based assays.
• Analyze and interpret empirical data, while employing appropriate statistical analyses.
• Maintain accurate documentation of protocols and experiments.
• Operate under a Quality Management System (e.g., Extended Documentation Practices).
• Respond flexibly to changing priorities and deliver accurate written results in a timely fashion.
• Communicate results at internal meetings and occasionally present at external conferences.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in biological science, biomedical engineering, or related field.
• 3 years of academic or industrial research experience.
• Proficient with mammalian cell culture, including primary cells.
• Experience with basic immunostaining and microscopy techniques.
• Proficient in basic molecular biology and biochemical analytical techniques.
• Experience maintaining a lab notebook and following written protocols.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with pluripotent stem cells and cell reprograming techniques is preferred.
• Familiarity with gene editing tools and principles is a plus.
• Familiarity with nanotechnology for nucleic acid delivery is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work in a laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazards.
• Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a lab bench or office desk.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
