Reporting into the Associate Director, the Analytical Scientist will perform and manage analytical testing of AAV batches to support Neurogene’s product development and manufacturing pipeline. The candidate will work across functional groups and with outside testing laboratories to generate high quality results using various protein and cell-based analytical methods. This is a laboratory-based position with the opportunity to supervise an associate. The selected candidate will be a fast learner, have a proven track record of reliable assay performance, collaborate effectively, and have superior organizational skills. Furthermore, the incumbent will be highly independent, have a good work ethic and enjoy working in a growing startup environment.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Lead sample testing efforts using various analytical methods (e.g. ELISA, cell-based assays, flow cytometry and HPLC based assays) to support process development and product characterization activities.
  • Perform sample testing, generate reports, and archive and organize assay data.
  • Facilitate and participate in the transfer of new methods to the group.
  • Collaborate with the process development group and contract analytical testing laboratories effectively to help deliver high quality results in a timely manner.
  • Maintain inventory of samples, reagents, and AAV product batches. Manage sample shipments for testing at contract labs.
  • Supervise an analyst.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S or M.S. in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years in a similar role in a biotech environment or core lab setting required.
  • Strong working knowledge of cell and protein-based assays.
  • Protein-based methods such as ELISA, enzymatic assays, SDS-PAGE, and Western blotting.
  • Routine cell culture and 96-well plate cell-based assays utilizing flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, enzymatic, and other readouts.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of flow cytometry and size exclusion chromatography methods is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate high quality testing data in a reliable and timely manner.
  • Great attention to detail with strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team structure.
