Definition and Class Characteristics
INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 20, 2024 Nevada County seeks an Accounting Assistant II to join the Sheriff's Department Accounting team. This is a journey-level position where individuals are expected to perform assigned duties with only occasional instructions or assistance. Individuals will perform a variety of routine clerical accounting duties related to the processing, maintaining, and preparing statistical, financial, and billing records.
Other Vital Duties Include
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Deposit warrants, checks, and other monies received and post and balance appropriate journals
  • Review and process vendor claims, including travel reimbursement, verifying, checking and correcting information received, and ensuring funds are available in the appropriate budget category
  • Batch claims for computer entry; input, verify and process data
An Accounting Assistant II is an integral part of the County's accounting team whose mission is to support the Accounting department by performing clerical tasks, including processing and recording transactions, and preparing reports and budgets! This position is crafted for individuals who have graduated from high school and have at least 2 years of clerical experience at a level comparable to the Office Assistant I with the County of Nevada. Furthermore, 2 years of experience at a level equivalent to Nevada County's classification of Accounting Assistant I is required. No college degree is required but if you have taken a few courses in accounting or a related field, that's a plus!
