OverviewMission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). ResponsibilitiesThe Communications Department tells the story of the NNSS to internal and external audiences, shaping our image and advancing our national security mission. Some of the most popular communications we produce, and post are messages, articles, signage, branding, photos and videos—internally and externally. This position is an integral member of the NNSS Communications Department team and will work with other team members to meet the goals for the department.
Key Responsibilities
  • Apply originality to produce and design multimedia projects using a variety of computer software and tools for print and web; meet standards for quality of work while maintaining company branding and design style. Such work would include, but is not limited to, banners, booklets, booth displays, brochures, certificates, CD/DVD labels, document covers, document design, infographics, figures/flowcharts, flyers, logos, name tents/name plates, posters, certificates, presentations, signs, web design, branding, and conference collateral/support.
  • Assist with printing and assembly of projects that are produced in-house. This includes, but is not limited to, large format printing, cutting, laminating, and mounting on foam board.
  • Interpret complex information and translate into clear, accurate, relevant, and compelling products appropriate to the targeted audience(s) with an emphasis on developing impactful presentations and visual effectiveness.
  • Collaborate and interact with all levels of administrative, management, and scientific and technical staff, including other team members, to understand, define, develop, and establish objectives to meet the design requirements for complex design projects.
  • Provide design consultation and carry out production assignments on web, print, multimedia and/or presentation projects.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate production decisions on print, web, multimedia and/or presentation projects, oversee projects from conceptualization to completion, coordinate work with other team members, and choose appropriate work methods.
  • Evaluate progress of projects and results achieved; recommend and implement major changes to achieve overall objectives.
  • Help establish the creative direction for visual communication through researching, testing, and presenting alternative approaches, methods, and tools for management consideration.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of new tools, technologies, concepts, and processes as they apply to various design projects; help develop process improvement methods; recommend appropriate media/display styles for content and test electronic materials on appropriate platforms and with appropriate software.
  • Organize and maintain the Graphic Archives – includes past, present and revised projects.
  • May lead overall activities on specific assignments.
  • Maintain an appropriate inventory of supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 3 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 5 years’ progressive related experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Multimedia, Web Design, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
  • Ability to conceptualize and effectively design, plan, direct, and coordinate production of multimedia design projects, including experience in establishing and maintaining design integrity throughout all media, publications, and campaigns.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with design methods and software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) for print and digital production.
  • Ability to design for web and advanced understanding of emerging design technologies.
  • Knowledge of design accessibility standards and inclusive design.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team in a demanding environment.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills necessary to independently recommend appropriate actions and solutions.
  • Experience leading complex print and multimedia design projects and establishing commitments of cost, schedule, and quality. Ability to balance creative expertise with customer objectives and requirements.
  • Experience working as a peer and consultant with subject matter.
  • Work location: this role will be located at our North Las Vegas office on a hybrid schedule.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy L Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709 , “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”
