Job Description
Nevada State University actively maintains an open pool of qualified individuals to be selected on an as-needed basis by the department to fulfill part-time temporary instructional needs and applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Nevada State University invites applications for adjunct faculty for in-person courses, including lecture and lab components in Microbiology to begin Fall 2024. The selected candidate will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team in the Department of Physical and Life Sciences, which supports Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Resource Sciences, and Human Health Sciences.
Applications will be considered on an as-needed basis determined by course availability.
Adjunct faculty members are compensated at the rate of $1,000 per credit hour for lecture and $2,000 per credit hour for lab. Courses range from 1-4 credits.
Unless stated otherwise, all positions require Nevada residency and on-site work.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Teach BIOL 251 (microbiology) lecture and/or BIOL 251 lab.
• Design course materials as needed (syllabus, lectures, assignments, exams, etc.).
• Utilize training sessions/materials to master the use of Canvas, NSU's learning management system.
• Maintain regular communication with students, adjunct coordinator, and department chair.
• Teaching, mentoring, and advising students.
• There is potential for collaboration with other faculty.

Required Qualifications:

• M.S. or terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D.) in Biology or other related field at the time of employment.
• Evidence of strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and working with undergraduate students.
• Demonstrated commitment to a diverse, non-traditional, first-generation student population.
• Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
