Job Description
Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Workforce Development Program Instructor.
Nevada State Workforce Development is a noncredit arm of Nevada State Univeristy issuing certificates and digital badges in a stackable micro-credential format. These programs are designed for Nevadans who are ready to advance their careers by acquiring next-level skills that build upon their prior learning, work experience, and skills obtained through career and technical education.
Nevada State's workforce development programs reflect our institutional mission and are carefully tailored to the needs of both students and employers. They deliver in-demand knowledge and skills in flexible, short-form, and accelerated formats that lead to a recognizable credential of achievement, and in specific instances an industry-recognized certification.
There are positions open for course instructors in the following program areas:

  • Software & Web Development

Programs are designed in the stackable micro-credential format, each lasting 15 weeks and made up of 3-6 short courses taught by one or more instructors. Additional details regarding the course content for each position will be discussed at the time of the job interview.
Compensation commensurate with experience and area of expertise, typically ranging from $1000 - $1200 per course (1 credit equivalent) with additional compensation provided for associated administrative tasks determined at the time of hire.
Applications will be considered on an as-needed basis determined by course availability.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Confer with the Director of Workforce Development to discuss program goals and course objectives.
  • Develop and deliver a curriculum that addresses course objectives.
  • Utilize innovative classroom techniques and methodologies that involve students in challenging learning opportunities.
  • Network with College and community resources to include creative active-learning experiences.
  • Provide timely feedback to students that will enhance their learning and skill development.
  • Monitor and report student attendance.
  • Refer to the supervisor those students not making adequate progress.
  • Complete skill and project assessments highlighting students' strengths and needs.
  • Submit curriculum evaluation for the purpose of improving program services.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or appropriate industry certification in the teaching area.
  • Minimum of one year (1) full-time experience in the teaching area.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to educational excellence and mentorship of professionals in the teaching area.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and technology skills.
  • Commitment to active learning and teaching strategies.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree or Doctorate in teaching area.
  • Previous teaching experience with adult learners.
  • Executive-level experience in the teaching area.
  • Experience in web-based coursework.
  • Demonstrated commitment to active learning and innovative teaching.
