What are the responsibilities and job description for the VOLUNTEER SERVICES MANAGER position at New Castle County Conservation District?
This is not a state merit position. This is a contractual position with the opportunity to work long term.
The New Castle Conservation District and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) in conjunction with the Division of Parks and Recreation has an opening for a Volunteer Services Manager. This position will have responsibilities for two parks: Lums Pond and Fort Delaware State Park. It will also provide volunteer management support to programs out of the Division Office including the Cultural Resources Unit and DNREC partner programs. The principal responsibilities of this position will include recruitment of volunteers, direct leadership of volunteer activity, development of volunteer programs, specifically at Lums Pond and Fort Delaware, plus coordination and management of corporate volunteering.
The principal responsibilities of the position include:
· Hands-on leadership of Volunteers.
· Administrative requirements for the volunteer program to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
· Cultivation of relationships both internally and externally.
JOB DUTIES:
- Provides Volunteer coordination duties for State Parks, under direction of the Office of Volunteer and Community Involvement.
- Recruits, interviews, and selects volunteers.
- Supervise volunteers and volunteer service projects, with focus on group a special event volunteer.
- Assess the need for volunteers and volunteer projects through consultation with park personnel.
- Assigns and places volunteers.
- Conducts volunteer orientation and training.
- Ensures participation in National and State days of service, which may include but not limited to Earth Day, Arbor Day, National Make a Difference Day, National Trails Day, and National Public Lands Day.
- Coordinates Volunteer recognition.
- Maintains and reports on hours of service and other records as required.
- Works with park and division staff and community volunteers to continue growth of Friends groups within assigned parks.
- Helps develop friends group participation and activity within the parks.
- May assist in volunteer efforts in other parks as needed.
- Promotes volunteerism through participation in community-wide events.
- Assists in Statewide Volunteer events as requested.
- Performs other related work as required.
· Schedule: Varies--- Evenings/Weekends/Holidays required
Conditions of Hire:
· Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). (Job Requirement)
· Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DNREC does not provide sponsorship for holders of H-1 B Visas.
· Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check.
· The New Castle Conservation District participates in E-Verify.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
1. Six months experience in volunteer recruitment.
2. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
3. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
4. Knowledge of planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs.
