The Materials Handler/Forklift Operator position is primarily responsible for selecting the outbound products members have ordered and placing them in the correct position on the line within the warehouse in preparation for shipment/pick up. In addition, this position is also responsible for accurately receiving inbound product shipments and placing them in the correct location on the line within the Warehouse. Additional responsibilities include reading work orders, properly stocking inventory and examining the condition of the boxes coming in and out of the warehouse. This is a safety focused work environment, employees are expected to comply with all company and warehouse policies, procedures and safety protocols.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the proper certification to operate the equipment used in the warehouse. Also responsible for inspecting assigned forklift every morning for any potential safety hazards.
  • Read work orders (pick tickets), and follow verbal instructions then using the forklift, retrieve the outbound products requested and place them in the proper location in the line to await shipment/pick up.
  • Receive truckload shipments from the manufacturer’s Inbounds trucks using forklifts to properly store the truck’s contents within the warehouse.
  • Separate and sort orders based on size, pick up times and delivery schedules for the various freight companies.
  • Assist managers to maintain records of merchandise shipped.
  • Examine condition of stock in inventory, report box defects according to proper internal channels.
  • May receive materials using scan guns and unpack pallet material into smaller flow racks to label & put-away.
  • May check in returns from Members according to the proper internal procedures.
  • May be involved with inventory control functions of the on-site warehouses including cycle counts, part number and location verification and could be required to help with the annual physical inventory.
  • Must report any potential safety hazards/concerns to Warehouse Manager in a timely manner.
  • Maintain files (paper and electronic) as required by this function/supervisor.
  • Assist in always maintaining a clean and safe work environment in the warehouse.
  • Move trash to respective areas, clean warehouse floors at the end of every shift.
  • Assist managers with any special projects or general warehouse support as assigned.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required or relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working in a warehouse environment is preferred.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Able to work in a fast-paced Distribution/Warehouse environment with the ability to multitask.
  • Prior work w/inbound/outbound freight including picking and delivering of a variety of products and all the activities associated with this process.
  • Ability to move/lift light articles that may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate various types of power equipment such as a forklift.
  • Ability to work effectively within a warehouse environment (concrete flooring, changing temperatures – heat/cold)
  • Must have a stable work history, be punctual and dependable.
  • Knowledge of standard warehouse safety rules is a plus.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, be detail oriented, and able to perform repetitive/multiple tasks with a high of accuracy.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with co-workers.
  • Self-motivated, takes the initiative, a problem solver and possesses a sense of urgency.
  • A team player who possesses a positive “can-do” attitude and willing to take on tasks that may fall outside the primary responsibilities.
