New Hanover County is seeking an experienced Human Service professionals to join the Sheriff's Office as a Youth Intervention Specialist.

This position provides professional case management services for at risk youth clients and families who are referred into the ELEMENTS program.

  • Duties include preparing and implementing case coordination plans by assessing needs and developing a plan of care to assist clients and families in reaching identified goals;
  • identifying and linking clients and their families with community resources and services such as stable housing, medical care, health insurance, employment resources, educational development, and after school programming;
  • implementing effective and appropriate behavior modification techniques based on established goals; monitoring and recording progress of case coordination plans;
  • evaluating and updating client goals; scheduling and facilitating group therapy, prevention and intervention sessions; assisting with individual and family crisis intervention;
  • preparing reports on the progress of clients and families; participating in treatment team meetings; documenting case records;

assisting Gang Detectives, Juvenile Detectives, School Resource Officers and other law enforcement personnel; attending community events and making presentations to schools, courts, and civic groups about gang awareness.

The Sheriff's Office patrols the county, investigates crimes, apprehends criminals, and provides custody or control for arrested defendants, both pre-trial and sentenced.

The Sheriff is responsible for courtroom security, service of civil process, transportation of prisoners and mental patients, and service of criminal papers.

Hours : -Hours are 10am-6pm Monday - Friday with occasional work events on nights and weekends.

Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Employment Type :

Full-Time, Non-exempt

Salary Information :

The salary for this position ranges from $51,111 - $86,889. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a similar structured setting as the job duties listed above or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Associate's degree 4 years of experience OR High school Diploma 6 years of experience)
