New Hanover County is Hiring a Transportation driver Near Wilmington, NC

Position Information

The New Hanover County Senior Resource Center is seeking a dynamic individual who will serve as Transportation Van Driver.

This 25 hour a week position will provide transportation for older adults for general transportation to the Senior Resource Center, medical appointments, and scheduled group day trips.

Ideal candidate must have excellent customer service, communication, and inter-personal skills to interact with various groups of people including older adults, caregivers, co-workers, and vendors;

excellent driving skills, basic computer skills, the ability to problem solve and make critical decisions, knowledge of NHC streets and above all, an overwhelming desire to serve the citizens of our county.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Operation of a 12-passenger para-transit vehicle, 6-passenger minivan, and 4-passenger sedan
  • Assisting passengers to and from vehicle as needed and insures they are secured in vehicle
  • Maintaining vehicle daily safety checks and cleanliness of the SRC vehicle
  • Fueling vehicles as needed and submits receipts for processing
  • Recording and maintaining mileage and fuel logs for all vehicles
  • Coordinating with Transportation Office and vehicle management to schedule maintenance
  • Checking email daily for organizational updates and information
  • Maintaining clear communication with the Transportation Coordinator regarding any client issues or observations, vehicle issues, and other pertinent information

Hours :

Part Time with benefits, 25 hours a week

Schedule will vary based on the needs of the department.

Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Employment Type :

Part Time, non-exempt

Salary Information :

The hiring salary for this position is $17.46 / hour plus a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Required Skills Include :

  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and possess a clean driving record
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Time management, ability to multi-task and solve problems
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Licenses / Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License (from any state) and good driving record required at time of application.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
