DescriptionNew-Indy Containerboard (NICB) is seeking an IT Solutions Architect for its Packaging division, with a keen focus on overall optimization of business processes and applications, business relationship and value-driven architecture, being responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and architecture within the suite of platforms utilized at NICB for the packaging division. The right candidate for this position can leverage technology to drive growth, innovation, and operational excellence within the 24/7/365 manufacturing facilities across North America. The IT Solutions Architect leads all activities related to the integration of software programs, applications, and third-party solutions as required to meet the business requirements of the organization, while working closely with both NICB’s Enterprise IT & OT Leadership and Sr. Packaging Leadership Teams on setting the strategic direction for the site in alignment with the NICB’s IT & OT Policies & Standards. This includes developing and maintaining an application architecture blueprint for the organization to drive technology initiatives, overseeing testing of the interoperability of application modules under development by in-house software development teams, commercial off-the-shelf software deployed in the organization, and with external third parties as necessary, always ensuring alignment with business objectives and boosting operational excellence.
To ensure success, the ideal candidate should have in-depth knowledge of packaging ERPs platforms and systems, overall manufacturing technology sectors, and is driven to understand all aspects of NICB’s Packaging business, in assuring the effectiveness of IT & OT solutions deployed, and in collaborating to the continuous improvement of NICB’s Enterprise IT & OT organization going-forward.
ResponsibilitiesHigh-level Day to Day Problem Resolution
  • Leverage your technical skills to resolve tickets and problems escalated within the packaging division.
  • Determine root cause of problems and eliminate those barriers to success.
  • Work with end users to ensure proper training.
  • Document all systems, SMEs and system connectivity to ensure support success.
  • Maintain support agreements on pertinent technologies within the site and maintain that support to minimize technology impacts on the business.
High-level Strategy & Planning
  • Work with site leadership and NICB’s Enterprise IT & OT teams to develop and maintain and roadmap of the packaging division’s technology stack, including the manufacturing technology areas.
  • Develop site support SMEs, establish comprehensive training programs.
  • Alert management to emerging trends in incidents.
  • Work with the business process owners to develop and maintain site Business Continuity Plans.
  • Drive continuous improvement at the packaging division through technology innovation and process optimization. Use your experience and the knowledge you gain from engaging with the site and NICB’s Enterprise IT & OT teams to drive projects and initiatives that provide tangible business value.
IT Solutions Architecture OutlineGovernance & Planning
  • Develop and maintain an integration architecture blueprint for the organization.
  • Orchestrate integration projects and corresponding strategies between business units and development teams.
  • Plan, execute, and manage the integration of new applications into existing systems and software throughout the enterprise.
  • Plan, execute, and manage the integration of new application integration technology into the existing environment.
  • Ensure that integration projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.
  • Ensure that integration planning and practices are aligned with strategic business goals and the company’s overall strategic vision.
  • Develop standards and processes to support and facilitate integration projects and initiatives.
Innovation & Deployment
  • Research and make recommendations on integration products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Collaborate with analysts, designers, and all system owners in the testing of newly integrated software programs and applications.
  • Lead integration testing phase of software and applications under development to identify and remedy potential problem areas.
  • Liaise with software developers and engineers to address issues in program logic and the interoperability of new applications with existing systems software.
  • Build relationships with software development and engineering teams to gain an understanding of application architectures and required functionality.
  • Build relationships with vendors of application software deployed in the organization’s IT environment to learn about and provide feedback on their technical integration capabilities.
Operational Management
  • Ensure the collection and coherent interpretation of the various business processes affected by integration efforts.
  • Work diligently to enhance or improve business processes via integration or, as necessary, minimize the impact of integration on those processes.
  • Evaluate results of integration projects, then report and make recommendations based on findings.
Where necessary, provide guidance
Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in business, IT or similar discipline, or commensurate equivalent work experience in a technology field.
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, follow up, documentation preparation and maintenance skills, and customer service orientation are crucial for success in this role.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience within, or supporting, a manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive application support experience with MS Office.
  • Familiarity with the fundamental principles of ITIL.
  • 5 years direct experience in enterprise-level applications.
  • Proven experience in developing enterprise and solution level architectural designs.
  • Proven experience in overseeing the linking of cross-functional applications between disparate business units and systems.
  • Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling and mapping, methodology development, and data mapping.
  • Extensive experience with core software applications, including Amtech Imaginera, Encore, Axiom.
  • Technically fluent in programming languages, including SQL.
  • Strong background in risk management methodologies as they relate to integration/software architecture and engineering.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with automated integration tools, including PLC’s, Scoreboards preferred.
  • Knowledge of relational database design and management techniques.
  • Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
  • Confidence and experience with API protocols and schemas such as XML, SOAP and REST.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and standards, including TCP/IP, VLans.
  • Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required.
  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Reliable and available to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
Work Conditions
  • 40-hour on-site work week. Emergency call-in availability for 24-hour production environment.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components. Be able to lift 40 lbs. unassisted.
  • Physically able to participate in sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of offsite software and system integration efforts.
