Position Summary:Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations and Analytics, this position is responsible for: working closely with key stakeholders in the offices of Development & Alumni Relations (DAR), Finance, Information Services and Technology (IST), and other areas to manage analytics, list generation, and reporting fulfillment. This position serves as the DAR liaison to the IST office for specific initiatives and tasks.
This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of engagement and fundraising analytics as well as DAR system integrations. S/he is charged with continually evaluating and identifying new opportunities in data analytics, automation of processes, technology, finance reconciliation, and business intelligence (BI)/data warehousing solutions. They will also participate in the selection and implementation of new technologies. The Director of Advancement Analytics will work closely with DAR staff on discrete data analytics projects, and with peers on enhancements to business processes and technical solutions.
The duties of the Director of Advancement Analytics requires accuracy, integrity, and a high level of confidentiality.Essential Functions:- Engagement and fundraising analytics and business intelligence (BI) reporting solutions fulfillment.
- Using non-profit or other business experience to help direct BI development initiatives, then building those BI solutions.
- Lead and manage operational analytics list generation, reporting and fulfillment.
- Collaborate with DAR colleagues to prioritize departmental engagement and fundraising analytics needs.
- Partner with the Executive Director of Operations and Analytics in fostering the utilization of analytics by each department within DAR.
- Create and review daily/weekly/monthly/yearly reports prior to distribution, to include: The DAR Report, quarterly KPI update report, annual VSE Survey Report, annual CASE Report.
- Facilitate monthly reconciliation with finance, ensuring they have the needed data to keep current with their books matching Raisers Edge (Raisers Edge is the system of record). This includes balancing to the bank statement with all gift income sources (BBMS, Lockbox checks, ACH, Paymentech, cash deposits, Stripe, etc.).
- Manage the data feed from Raiser’s Edge to Banner as well as other data feeds across campus where DAR data is present or DAR is reliant upon data from another data source.
- Ensure that data in the fundraising data warehouse is correct and that reports meet departmental needs.
- Manage and maintain the NJIT alumni engagement score. Compiling data from multiple sources, ensuring the daily feed updates our weighted alumni engagement score.
- Manage the development and maintenance of a catalog of strategic BI reports for the DAR office.
- Manage information analysis and work with DAR’s Operations department to ensure the integrity of the DAR office’s data for analysis.
- Prepare supporting business documentation and specifications.
- Serve as lead on use of BI reporting tools for engagement and fundraising needs.
- Provide support for list generation, including building queries, exports and mail lists. Determine best use of the data warehouse or in-software query/export functionality.
- Support projects for new technologies.
- Work closely with the Finance office to:
1. Reconcile all cash gifts and pledges monthly
2. Assist finance in annual audit needs from Raisers Edge
- Work closely with the IST office to:
1. Create proof of concept to test new technologies, as it relates to enterprise reporting and analytics;
- Collaborate on data warehousing projects;
1. Represent DAR on the campus-wide data warehousing project/team. Incorporate campus-wide data warehousing into our data practices.
2. Make recommendations as to redundancies and efficiencies to be gained by leveraging the accessible campus-wide data for DAR processes.
3. Collaborate on business process automation projects; and
4. Implement new data storytelling technology as best suited for the Development & Alumni Relations office.Prerequisite Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar field
- A minimum of ten (10) years of Business Intelligence/Business Analytics experience
- Expert level knowledge of SQL.
- Knowledge of non-profit business and processes.
- Ten (10) years of business intelligence, data analytics, and management experience.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience working with project teams and to deadlines.
- Documentation and report writing skills.
- Presentation and communication skills – must be comfortable with technology and constituent engagement and fundraising processes and concepts, and able to communicate with staff in both areas.
- Query Tools: Use/knowledge of SQL Server, business intelligence tools (reporting services and analysis services), plus other analytical and data visualization tools.
- Data Mining & Statistics: familiarity with data mining tools and technologies and/or statistical packages such as SPSS or SAS; knowledge of basic statistical concepts and techniques.
- Server and Database Skills: Knowledge of application databases, relational databases, report servers, and SQL knowledge/experience.
- Programming: familiarity with Python and VBA programming environment and logic helpful.
- Data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL): data migration experience (using tools like Workato, Importomatic, Luminate Online, and MS Power Automate).
- Data Warehousing: Knowledge of data warehousing design techniques such as dimensional schemas and dimensions/facts; knowledge of different loading techniques such as incremental versus full refresh, dimensional changes, snapshots, and historical archiving.
- Financial experience helpful.Bargaining Unit:PSA
