Why does the job exist?

This is a trainee position that involves the completion of the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) Training Academy and field training.

The Cadet will attend, participate in, and successfully complete the NMCD Training Academy within 12 months of hire.

The minimum starting salary is $20.00.

Employment is subject to passing pre-employment screening that may include background investigation, agility testing, and psychological testing.

Minimum Qualification

High school education or equivalent. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Successful completion of the New Mexico Corrections Academy within one (1) year of hire is required. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, must be at least 18 years old, have at least a high school education or its equivalent, be of good moral character, have not been convicted of a felony in the courts of this or any state or in the federal courts, and successfully pass any physical or aptitude examination the department may require.

Employment is subject to passing all aspects of the screening process including : background investigations & psychological evaluation.
