The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) is a Type-2 public charter school serving students in the New Orleans Metropolitan area. NOMMA is dedicated to the education of students, no matter their background or previous school experience. At NOMMA, we are building a Community of respect, which includes two components: Self-Respect and Respect for Others. Students at NOMMA study in a focused, college preparatory environment guided by a team of teachers and retired military instructors who bring unparalleled experience to the classroom. All NOMMA students are cadets in the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training (JROTC) Program. The mentoring support provided by the JROTC Instructor and instruction from the master’s level academic faculty ensures that cadets achieve their personal and academic potential. The acquisition of core knowledge and the skills of analysis, problem-solving, communication and global responsibility will ensure cadets’ success as future local and national leaders.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of teaching experience in an urban school
Required Skills and Characteristics:
Possess excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations
Desire to be a part of a team that helps create a great school environment within the New Orleans community
Thorough understanding of the pedagogy and best practices of education.
Desire to teach children grades 8-12 and ability to adapt to their developmental status.
The ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods, including discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with peers and administration
Display personal accountability and ownership for actions and outcomes
Belief in every student’s ability to achieve their personal best
Proficient with Google Classroom, JCampus, or related software.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds (Occasional).
Must be able to traverse school campus and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
