New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation is Hiring a Trades Supervisor (Carpenter) Near Pleasant Valley, NY

Minimum QualificationsOne year of experience as a skilled journey-level carpenter subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and Experience.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
  • If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
Duties DescriptionUnder the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor within the Regional Maintenance Office headquartered at James Baird State Park, the Trades Supervisor Carpenter’s duties will include, but not be limited to:
  • Supervising carpenters and other staff in the construction and repair of regional structures.
  • Supervising and working alongside both semiskilled and unskilled staff; guiding staff in the performance of any task in the carpentry trade at a journey level.
  • Supervising and performing a variety of duties in the restoration, reconstruction, rehabilitation, new construction and repairs at State Parks and Historic Sites using the normal tools of the trade in a skilled manner.
  • Working with the teams to fabricate, construct, repair, replace and perform preventative maintenance on regional facilities and other structures.
  • Adhering to professional standards common to the carpentry trade.
  • Laying out work, following blueprints, specifications, or other instructions; diagnosing problems; drawing rough sketches or preparing plans to scale; making detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects and ordering supplies as needed; being responsible for overall coordination and execution of projects alongside the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Supervising other Trades Specialists or Generalists (Locksmith, Painters, Plumbers, Electricians, etc.) as operationally needed
  • Acting independently to supervise, review, train and evaluate work of staff; completing required paperwork and operating various computer programs to assist the Maintenance Supervisor with daily operations.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
  • Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor tasks.
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively with other staff.
  • Must have the ability to supervise others.
  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend written material.
  • Must be able to pass a physical for respirator use.
  • Must be able to work from heights.
  • Knowledge of Historic Preservation as set forth by the Secretary of the Interior is preferred, but not required.
The posted hiring rate is the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 14 ($54,860) and the Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,650) The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($68,284) and the Mid Hudson Adjustment ($1,650).
