The Vacancy, Basic Function, Minimum Qualifications

THE VACANCY:
This recruitment is dual certification, which means that all are welcome to apply. Candidates will be ranked on a combined eligibiity list based on their total overall score. Service credit points will be applied to eligible employee's total final score.
There is currently one vacancy in the Maintenance and Operations Department (8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year). This position works from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director, Maintenance and Operations, plan, organize, manage and direct the activities, personnel and operations of the Facility Use Program and the Custodial division of the Maintenance and Operations Department; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; assure compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level coursework in planning or related field and four years increasingly responsible custodial experience including two years in a supervisory capacity.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.

Examination Procedures And Information

THE EXAMINATION:

Qualifications Appraisal Interview: 100%
The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.
An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list.
Examinations and interviews held to create the eligible list will be conducted virtually, using different online/internet platforms that require video recording or conferencing capabilities, as well as access to a computer with an internet connection and basic Microsoft Office Suite Software.
The virtual qualifications appraisal Interview is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 22nd. You will be notified via email, as indicated on your application, regarding your ability to participate in this recruitment.

Job Responsibilities

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Plan, organize, manage and direct the activities, personnel and operations of the Custodial division and the Facility Use Program of the Maintenance and Operations Department; inspect work in progress to assure proper standards; coordinate and supervise work of roving custodial crews and ensure that guidelines are followed; assure a safe environment for students and staff.
Receive, review and assign work orders and material requisitions; approve or deny work orders and requisitions; estimate labor and materials costs; evaluate new materials and supplies.
Coordinate staffing and any necessary support activities to support use of district facilities by district programs and outside user groups.
Monitor and evaluate facility use by district program and outside user groups and manage the facility use application process.
Coordinate work with other trades to maximize efficiency and minimize conflicts with other work.
Meet with outside contractors and vendors to obtain bids for various projects District wide; review blueprints and create scope of work for projects; develop specifications for custodial related projects.
Assist in the development, coordination and preparation of the annual preliminary budget for the Custodial division of the Maintenance and Operations Department; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.
Respond to, evaluate and assign emergency service requests to staff.
Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions.
Provide technical expertise, information and assistance to the Director regarding assigned functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs.
Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to personnel and assigned activities.
Communicate with other administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.
Operate a computer and other office equipment as assigned; operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment as necessary.
Attend and conduct a variety of meetings as assigned; develop and conduct in-service training programs.
