FACILITIES COORDINATOR (4504)
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to manage the daily operations of Newton County Facilities by performing a
variety of semi-skilled, skilled, technical, and administrative tasks in regard to the maintenance and operation of the
buildings and grounds.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude
them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties
may be required and assigned.
Monitors condition of public, grounds, rights-of-way and facilities: conducts periodic inspections; identifies and
completes needed repairs, replacement or groundskeeping needs; cleans and maintains public areas and adjacent
roadways; picks up litter; empties trash bins; cuts and prunes trees and underbrush; mows grass; plants trees, shrubs,
and flowers; seeds, fertilizes, top-dresses, conditions soil, and waters lawns, and open spaces; and applies pest and
weed control.
Performs custodial work as required and assigned, including the following tasks: changes light bulbs and fluorescent
tubes; sweeps and mops floors; empties garbage containers and replaces can liners; cleans and sanitizes restrooms
and replenishes supplies; cleans furnishings and fixtures; washes windows, walls, metal and woodwork; and cleans
gutters.
Operates and maintains County-owned vehicles, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and other equipment to
complete work assignments: operates and maintains motor vehicle, lawn mower, chain saw, trailer, weed trimmer,
tractor and farming type implements, electric drill, and other tools and equipment; ensures maintenance of vehicles,
equipment and tools; schedules repairs as needed; maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies; ensures
adequate inventory to complete work assignments; orders equipment, parts, and supplies; and maintains related
documentation.
Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled
and semi-skilled trades work.
Coordinates and assists the Project Coordinator in preparing all facility buildings for use or rent.

Purchases materials and manages the assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources.
Prepares and monitors facilities for a variety of programs and events: assist with setting up and taking down for
weddings, moving chairs from one location to another, be present on-site during events to monitor and assist Lessor
if needed; perform a walk through with the Lessor at the end of the event.
Opens and closes facilities as required.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated
timeframes and per established procedures: prepares, completes, receives, reviews, processes, forwards or retains,
as appropriate, various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further
processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, Internet, e-mail, or
other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, community service workers, the public, and other
individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve
problems.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED is required; supplemented by one year of experience in groundskeeping, maintenance;
or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills,
and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential
functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary
to function effectively in the position.

to coordinate programs or activities of a project, and resolve typical problems associated with the responsibilities of
the job.

the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50
pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds,
odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental
conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes,
machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks,
animal/human bites, water hazards, or rude/irate customers.
