Nexus Family Healing is Hiring a Behavioral Intervention Supervisor Near Manteno, IL

Nexus- Indian Oaks Family Healing is part of Nexus Family Healing, a national nonprofit network of mental health agencies with over 45 years of restoring hope for thousands of children and families through outpatient/community mental health services, foster care and adoption, and residential treatment.

Safe Harbor School is our very own private school that serves youth receiving treatment at Nexus- Indian Oaks. SHS serves grade level 6 - 12, and students participate in a curriculum that is tailored to their unique needs and current grade level. The school provides a special education curriculum that is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, and approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. Credits transfer to any school upon the clients discharge.

Our Behavioral Intervention Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the goals, objectives, processes and activities that support the successful intervention of students who are displaying the need for behavior and emotional support. The Behavioral Intervention Supervisor will foster and maintain an individualized environment with the goal of safely reinstating our students back into their assigned classroom setting while overseeing multiple behavioral program employees.

Schedule/Pay:

  • Monday-Friday 7a-3:30p

  • Salary: Starting between $50,000-$55,000 annually

Primary responsibilities:

School Safety & Staff Support

  • Provides oversight of the Behavioral program employees who facilitate behavioral and academic intervention for
    students displaying the need for support; models and reinforces fundamentals of positive youth development.
  • Collaborates with Behavioral program employees, providing coaching in the development and documentation of
    individual student Safety and Therapeutic School Education Plans that work toward behavioral progress.
  • Activates training refreshers for Behavioral program employees in areas of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention,
    intervention tools and resources, Empowering Restorative Engagement practices and all Relias trainings.
  • Addresses student escalations, outbursts, emergencies, and crisis situations with a calm and objective demeanor;
    uses sound judgement and responds according to Nexus policy and protocol.
  • Leads by example, exemplifying and modeling professional and respectful behavior; holds students accountable to
    their actions while communicating respectfully, firmly, and positively.
  • Oversees the orderly transition of students throughout the school day; maintains an assertive, dependable yet
    authoritative presence throughout the halls and in classrooms throughout the day.

Behavioral Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversees the Student Data Management System and corresponding reporting measures; establishes reports that demonstrate student academic and behavioral progress and fulfill program key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Advances student reports to Behavioral program employees, deploying student constant, computer ban, run risk and safety plan updates, ensuring program employees are apprised of individual student implications.
  • Manages and assesses the School Behavioral Dashboard on a daily basis; identifies pertinent events or incidents to be communicated to Behavioral program employees.
  • Maintains Skyward Discipline System and database; inputs student attendance and behavioral infractions ensuring appropriate disciplinary codes, reasons and details are documented and accounted for.
  • Analyzes and interprets student behavioral and academic data; documents themes from reporting data and presents information in a digestible and understandable format to program leadership and school personnel.

Program Leadership

  • Leads, coaches, and develops Behavioral program employees by providing specific, meaningful, and consistent performance feedback including ninety day and annual performance evaluations.
  • Communicates the program’s overarching goals, objectives, and performance expectations to all direct reports; ensures staff understand position expectations and how their role impacts the team and program’s success.
  • Maintains open and consistent communication with classroom teacher, teaching assistant, and program staff ensuring all roles are current and apprised of student academic and behavioral needs.
  • Oversees and ensures Behavioral program employees leverage the appropriate and approved interventions to assist students in maintaining baseline or returning to baseline after escalation.
  • Supports and assists program employees with assessing and interpreting student data sheets and functional behavioral data/analysis, in the development of student Behavioral Intervention Plans.
  • Works collaboratively with all Behavioral program roles, providing expertise and support in the creation of Educational Plans, Behavioral Intervention Plans, Functional Behavioral Analysis, and the development of Behavioral Goals.

Program Staff Integration & Collaboration

  • Participates as a member of the Behavioral Professional Learning Community and contributing member of the Offices of Academic and Strategic Intervention and Supports (OASIS) methods.
  • Participates in and contributes to, Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings, Case Conferences, Disciplinary Meetings, Campus Safety Meetings and Milieu Supervisor meetings as needed, ensuring thorough program communication, and understanding of program changes and developments.
  • Leads the Treatment Team Involvement Committee and participates in the School Safety Planning Committee.
  • Assists the Behavior Specialist with organizing and planning field trips including the OASIS and PBIS field trips; monitors and maintains OASIS budget and communicates budgetary limitations to program leadership.
  • Serves as a mentor and role model with students that reflects compassion and understanding while firmly holding students accountable for their actions; communicates with honesty, positivity, and respect.

Program Policy, Procedure & Training

  • Complies with all agency specific and Nexus wide policies including privacy and confidentiality for students and their families.
  • Abides by all safety policies and procedures while on campus and while involved in off-campus activities.
  • Oversees the compliant completion of all required documentation associated with restraints used; ensures all restraint details are captured and submitted to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
  • Thoroughly and articulately completes Life Space documentation and Significant Event Reports; communicates relevant report information to program employees, ensuring BI employees know and understand specific and sensitive nuances of the student’s behavioral state.
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries in all interactions and contact with students and conducts all work responsibilities in a manner that exemplifies professionalism.
  • Continually seeks knowledge of and exhibits an understanding and acceptance of differences in gender, race, age, culture, ethnicity, class, religion, and disability, to better appreciate staff, students, and families.
  • Demonstrates an acceptance and respectfulness toward diversity concerning commonalities and differences such as gender, race, age, culture, ethnicity, class, religion, disability, and gender identity.

Required Education and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a school, day treatment or residential treatment setting preferred.
  • Illinois: Paraprofessional Licensure through ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) or willing to obtain within 3 months of employment is required OR, an Illinois substitute teacher license.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements

Nice to Have:

  • LBS-1 Licensure
  • Illinois: MHP eligible in the state of IL 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to assist staff in proper restraining of youths.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours).
  • Must be able to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within the residential program.
