JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Director of Professional Learning & Staff Development
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction
SUPERVISES: Professional Development Center (PDC)
POSITION OBJECTIVE: To oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of a
comprehensive professional learning program for all staff that is consistent with the District's
strategic plan. Develop programs and partnerships that create pathways to careers in education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or related field
2. Illinois Public Educator License, General Administrative Endorsement, and Teacher
Evaluator Designation required
3. School or district experience in personnel, curriculum, and data analysis
4. At least three to five years of developing professional learning and delivering training and
support in instructional strategies, culturally-responsive teaching, and/or literacy
5. Extensive teaching or administrative experience with in-depth knowledge of culturally
responsive teaching and research-based instructional practices
6. Deep knowledge of adult learning and ability to coach, mentor, and/or teach adult learners
7. Knowledge of the various content area standards, SEL standards, and technology
frameworks
8. Knowledge of Illinois educator licensure and endorsement requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS:
1. Ability to build relationships, engage in critical conversations, and maintain a professional
and positive attitude
2. Ability to establish, maintain and manage effective working relationships with students,
teachers, staff, and administrators
3. Ability to use data to develop and implement professional learning and training to support
the professional growth of licensed staff and support staff
4. Ability to understand and apply school code and legal documents
5. Ability to make effective presentations and develop practical operating models
6. Ability to interpret, analyze, and use data including statistics and test data
7. Ability to use Google applications
8. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a variety of audiences, both orally and in

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Leads development and implementation of professional learning for all staff
Duties
* Develops and coordinates a District-wide comprehensive professional learning and
development plan centered on equity and aligned with the District strategic plan and building
school improvement plan for faculty, staff, and administration
* Collaborates with educational leaders at various levels
* Participates in appropriate building and district administrative committees
* Keeps informed about current trends and practices in subject fields and instruction
* Champions all efforts to integrate innovation into the curriculum
* Supports the professional development centers to promote curricular innovation and a
culture of professional learning
* Establishes and oversees teacher leadership teams aligned to current district initiatives
* Maintains a library of professional materials for staff use
* Provides professional development to administrators on state licensure
* Organizes professional learning during Weekly Late Starts
* Organizes institute days, including the biannual Township Institute
* Organizes administrative in-services
* Oversees new staff mentoring program
* Oversees new teacher induction program
Leads development and implementation of pathways to careers and endorsements in education

* Keeps informed about current Illinois educator licensure and endorsement requirements
* Provides programmatic leadership to initiatives that contribute to student college and career
development.
* Establishes positive relations with colleges and universities to develop, expand, or improve
programs and opportunities for students and staff
* Partners with educator preparation programs and coordinates the placement of student
teachers and the recruitment of diverse candidates
* Develops and oversees curricular programs aligned to state-approved student pathways to
education careers
* Develops and oversees staff programs supporting the attainment of Professional Educator
Licenses, high-needs endorsements, and/or administrative endorsements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and talk or
hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally
lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the
ability to adjust focus. The employee is continuously interacting with the public, staff and students. The
employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people. The employee is regularly required to
sit and stand. The employee is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls;
reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Occasionally the employee must use hand/grip strength to operate
office equipment. Ability to withstand long term use of video display terminals is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is required to regularly interact
with the students, staff and the public.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260 Days.
