Nishna Productions is Hiring a Floater Social Services Near Red Oak, IA

This is a full time Montgomery County Floating Position. This position is eligible for a hiring bonus.FloaterI. The Floater is directly responsible to the Floater Supervisor of the assigned Team Leader.
II. This is an as needed, paraprofessional level position.
ResponsibilitiesIII. Specific Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • The floater will teach, train, and assist individuals receiving services and supports according to their Person-Centered Plans.
  • Supervise chores and activities as assigned.
  • Follow the assigned work schedule never leaving individual receiving services unsupervised.
  • Complete documentation and other required record keeping using the proper forms as they relate to established procedures and licensing standards.
  • Meet housekeeping standards and properly care for agency vehicles.
  • Keep informed of all programming and administrative information, changes, and additions by checking the daily log and other messages in the residential settings. Responsible for attending staff meetings and scheduled in-service training sessions.
  • Supervise consumers' care and use of clothing and personal property, assisting with purchases, as necessary.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the site Team Leader, your Team Leader and/or the Executive Director.
  • Be flexible in hours and days willing to work.
  • Arrive at work and leave as scheduled.
  • Keep all written and verbal information strictly confidential and in line with NPI policy and procedure keeping said information within each facility. Responsible for recording and documenting, using the proper forms as they relate to established procedures.
  • Become familiar with agency policies and procedures.
  • Participate in and cooperate with agency investigations.
IV. Essential Functions
  • Floaters must be flexible and able to work days, nights, overnights (including awake/sleeping overnights) and weekends.
  • Floaters will be required to work in all areas once each quarter. This does not apply to those staff members that are floating in addition to their primary position with the agency in order to fulfill their 40 hours.
  • Floaters must work 30 hours per week.
  • Floaters are responsible for providing services and supports to individuals receiving services from the agency. Quality of care must meet agency standards.
  • Provide training to individuals in developing life skills (i.e., meal preparation, laundry, cleaning, personal hygiene.)
  • Ensure that housekeeping standards are maintained according to expectations of the agency.
  • Nishna Productions, Inc. exists to serve the needs of persons with disabilities. Frequently, these persons have behavior disorders, which may result in the display of aggressive outbursts of a physical nature. The person served may or may not be able to control these episodes. All employees must be willing to participate in working with training of behavioral problem clients. The behavioral problems may include both verbal and physically aggressive clients.
  • Provide a supportive and therapeutic atmosphere for all individuals receiving services and supports.
  • Administer medication and maintain accurate medication documentation.
  • Ability to complete electronic documentation.
  • All staff/volunteers of Nishna Productions, Inc. will comply with state and federal regulations regarding HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
  • Every employee/volunteer of Nishna Productions, Inc. is on a need-to-know basis regarding the Protected Health Information (PHI) of the individuals they serve. Therefore, a security clearance level is assigned for each job description and those security levels are allowed access only to the information required to complete the duties in each position.
  • Level One allows the least access and is intended for truck drivers, maintenance staff, redemption center workers, and volunteers.
  • Level Two is for direct care workers including floaters/substitutes, SCLS, Program Instructors, Day-Hab aids, Vocational Trainers, lead staff, and 1:1 staff.
  • Level Three includes the office support staff.
  • Level Four is for Team Leaders, supervisors, and Work Center Supervisors.
  • Level Five is the security clearance given to Program Managers.
  • Level Six allows access to all PHI and includes Directors/Administrators, Quality Assurance, and IT staff.
  • Temporary clearance for PHI access can be given if staff require the access to complete extra assigned duties (i.e. filling in for another department). Maintenance personnel are given permanent access to areas where PHI is stored but they may need to enter in order to complete their duties.
V. Qualifications/Requirements
  • Individuals "must not have or be a carrier" of a serious infectious or communicable disease, such as but not limited to, incurable, fatal, or debilitating diseases, which cannot be eliminated or reduced by reasonable accommodation. A current example would include, but not be limited to, tuberculosis. Determination of the existence of a serous disease is to be made by the proper medical authorities.
  • 18 years of age.
  • Previous similar job experience in teaching skills of cooking, cleaning, and personal hygiene.
  • Prefer high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Exercise sound judgment when the situation requires immediate decision-making.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Iowa chauffeur's license. Maintain acceptable driving record as determined by agency insurance carrier.
  • Physical exam prior to employment and every four years thereafter.
  • Complete 10-hour med-management class.
  • Physically assist a consumer to regain their balance or to transfer from a sitting, standing, or a prone position.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform routine household tasks, such as vacuuming, mopping, the use of cleaning agents, meal preparation, and clothing care.
  • Must be willing to work with individuals who have behavior disorders, which may result in the display of aggressive outburst of a physical nature.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed to any location within the agency.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work different shifts/hours.
  • Must have the ability and desire to work with other employees as a team.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • The Floater position requires one to be self-motivated.
  • Each employee of the agency may be required to physically assist an individual to regain their balance, transfer from a sitting, standing, or a prone position. Some individuals have physical handicaps and/or seizure disorders and must be assisted to insure their physical safety. Whenever possible, staff should assist one another when it is necessary to lift or transfer a consumer. Employee medical examination forms have been revised to include information regarding this responsibility.
  • Must not have been legally convicted of any type of assault, abuse, or bodily injury.
VI. Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to travel from place to place, up to 70 miles.
  • Must be able to enter and exit homes that may or may not be accessible to everyone.
  • Must be able to work a full scheduled shift, as assigned, sometimes on a split shift basis.
  • Must be able to carry necessary paper and supplies to perform functions.
  • Must be able to provide physical care necessary to residents when performing direct care duties.
  • Ability to physically assist a consumer to regain his balance or to transfer from a sitting, standing or prone position.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform routine household tasks, such as vacuuming, mopping, and the use of cleaning agents, meal preparation and clothing care.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds in residential settings.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in vocational work centers.
  • Ability to bend over packing boxes to put product in boxes – height of boxes may range from 3 feet to 3 ½ feet.
