NJAC is Hiring a Support Counselor (DV / Vulnerable Populations) Near Camden, NJ

Job SummaryThe Domestic Violence Counselor is responsible for coordinating and providing high quality, client defined and culturally sensitive services to victims of domestic violence including short- and long-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management and advocacy; as well as providing supervision, coaching, direction and guidance to program case managers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include but are not limited to:
Counseling & Direct Support
  • Coordinate and provide client-defined and culturally sensitive counseling, immediate crisis intervention, needs assessment, and safety planning with all survivors who access CCDVC supportive services
  • Provide best practice methodologies for domestic violence and trauma victims including creative therapies such as art, play and drama in addition to traditional talk therapy.
  • Ensure all direct support services are delivered using a trauma-informed and client-defined approach.
  • Coordinate and provide individual and or group counseling sessions, to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, adjusting to life, coping strategies, or making changes; guide clients in the development of skills or strategies for dealing with their problems
  • Assess clients’ primary areas of support and needs and respond to self-identified goals by providing case management, advocacy and referrals related to housing, public assistance, immigration, employment, education, children’s, and other issues. Act as a case manager for assigned caseloads depending on program assignment
  • Assist clients with Victim’s Crime Compensation, NJ VINE, and Victim Impact Panels and Statements
  • Assist in providing a safe and therapeutic environment according to established policies and procedures
  • Attend various community meetings and conduct outreach to promote awareness of CCDVC’s services
  • Collect, analyze, and report departmental statistics and enter data into client database in an accurate and timely manner as set forth in NJAC- CCWC’s policies
  • Conduct community outreach as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • LSW, Master’s Degree in Human Services or any other relatable field with a minimum of two years’ experience providing counseling and/or crisis intervention
  • Skilled in creative modalities such as play therapy or creative/expressive arts therapies; flexibility in approaches to working with a diverse group of clients
  • Completion of NJ 40-hour State Mandated Domestic Violence Training
  • Experience in Trauma informed Cares, Crisis intervention and/or services for domestic violence survivors preferred
  • Demonstrated dedication to the anti-violence movement, social justice, and gender equity
  • Able to set priorities in a shifting environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Project management experience
  • Understanding of the dynamics and impacts of sexual violence
  • Critical and strategic thinking
  • Strong analytical and persuasive writing skills
  • A high level of organization
  • An ability to measure program outcomes
  • An ability to work with minimal supervision
  • An ability to develop and manage a volunteer team
  • Some evening and overnight availability may be necessary
