Duration: Months

Shift 1: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

  • Registered dietitian for Richmond State Hospital.
  • Position is 40 hours a week, Monday thru Friday, no weekend or holiday requirements.
  • There is a possibility for a hybrid schedule after the first 30 days. Hybrid schedule would be 2 days remote,

A Day In The Life:

  • The essential functions of this role are as follows:
  • Monitor food service operations to ensure compliance to nutritional, and safety.
  • Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions, and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counseling.
  • Advise patients and staff on nutritional principles, dietary plans, diet modifications, and food selection and preparation.
  • Consult with physicians and health care personnel to determine the nutritional needs and diet restrictions of the patient.
  • Record diet histories and assessments, charts, and progress notes.

  • You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
  • Optional requirement to be registered as a dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Specialized knowledge of the principles, techniques, and terminology of modern dietetics and institutional management gained through experience.
  • Working knowledge of modern methods, materials and equipment used in quantity food service and the care necessary to conserve all resources.
  • Ability to plan menus and oversee personnel in modified and regular diet preparation and service.
  • Ability to conduct food service and/or nutrition-related training programs.
    Ability to interact with the treatment team, medical and administrative staff, and patients.

Responsibility:

  • While not the final authority, the incumbent must exercise judgment in applying alternatives and in conferring with medical/nursing staff and dietary supervisors related to unusual dietary problems or concerns.
  • Unusual problems or deviations from guidelines are discussed with a supervisor who otherwise reviews work periodically for the accomplishment of objectives.
  • Personal Work Relationships:
  • Works with patients, physicians, and other clinical staff as required, hospital department heads, students, commercial vendors, the general public, and the community sector.

Required skills:

  • Specialized knowledge of the principles, techniques, and terminology of modern dietetics and institutional management gained through experience.
  • Working knowledge of modern methods, materials, and equipment used in quantity food service and the care necessary to conserve all resources.
  • Ability to plan menus and oversee personnel in modified and regular diet preparation and service.
  • Ability to conduct food service and/or nutrition-related training programs.
  • Ability to interact with the treatment team, medical and administrative staff, and patients.
  • Prior experience working in an in-patient facility, preferably mental health, behavioral, or substance misuse setting.
  • Registered dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
