Job Title : Quality Technician

Department : Quality Control (410)

Reports to Job Title : Quality Supervisor

Fair Labor Standards Act Status (FLSA) : Exempt Non-Exempt X Hourly

Summary of the Position :

The quality technician performs quality checks in a timely manner for raw, work in process and finish product through inspection, laboratory analysis, organoleptic testing and packaging status verification to ensure consistency.

Functions of the Position :

Performs analysis on processing and packaging goods in a timely manner. Analyzes visual, organoleptic, weight, size, mix, moisture, water activity and salt to ensure consistency.

Processing : Performs finished and in-process product analysis. Performs free fatty acid analysis on processing oil. Checks processing lines for type of product, correctness of labels and date codes.

Prints and verifies roaster temperature readings. Tests metal detectors for compliance. Performs ATP testing to assure proper cleaning.

Performs pre-operational inspections on production lines. Packaging : Performs analysis on packaging integrity and quality including;

Tests metal detectors for compliance. Performs ATP testing to assure proper cleaning. Performs pre-operational inspections on production lines. (80%)

  • Enters data for analysis, holds and equipment checkouts. (5%)
  • Prepares samples for analysis by consulting R&D lab. (5%)
  • Holds out of specification products. (5%)
  • Performs any extra assigned duties as needed. (5%)
  • Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense, HACCP, SQF, and regulatory requirements.
  • Aware and accountable for maintaining and documenting preventative controls necessary to ensure food safety and quality.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to management.
  • Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills and information within assigned team and across functional areas.
  • Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Food quality experience is required.
  • Must be able to eat any snack product or nut variety.
  • Attention to detail, good record keeping and basic math skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Ability to use the following : calculator, analytical scale, salt / moisture / oxygen analyzers, water activity meter and color meter.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • May be exposed to high temperatures.
