Job Description
ABOUTTHEPOSITION
The Human Resources Talent Acquisition Specialist is a key role in creating a positive experience for Normandale candidates, future employees, and new staff/faculty. This role works as part of a dynamic and collaborative team to ensure that the process of hiring and onboarding new employees is executed reliably, efficiently, and in line with organizational values. The person in this role works across the entire college community. This specialist also supports other human resources transactional business processes.
This role performs advanced administrative functions in coordinating the College’s employment processes including recruitment, screening, interviewing, hiring, salary placement, onboarding, and orientation. The role oversees the organization and timely progress of all active searches and serves on many search advisory committees. The person in this role ensures that the hiring process is equitable, provides HR expertise to hiring managers and is charged with identifying solutions as challenges arise throughout the hiring and onboarding process. This position builds relationships with local organizations to support broad sharing of open positions and coordinates with the Affirmative Action Officer to ensure recruiting programs are consistent with the College’s commitment to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action. The person in this position also responds to routine questions on both statewide and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities specific bargaining agreements to ensure contracts are understood and implemented accurately.
This role requires the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines at once and navigate between multiple sets of contracts, processes, and requirements. In our fast-paced environment, being a self-starter and digging in to do research as needed to solve problems is a must. The person in this role will be starting in a time of big change as we both improve our hiring process and migrate to Workday (July 1 go-live date).
The Human Resources Talent Acquisition Specialist is a valued member of the Human Resources team and reports to the Associate Vice President of Human Resources.

Required Qualifications
Essential
These qualifications are required to move forward; as such, ensure your application contains descriptions of your education and work experience sufficient to demonstrate competency in each of the following):
  • Associate’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business, Communication or related field AND at least one year of experience screening resumes and interviewing OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
(required to be demonstrated during the interview process):
  • Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous, and accurate information, communication, and service to diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to prioritize work, initiate actions to meet deadlines, and complete all aspects of assignments under limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, document, train and improve business procedures required for recurring work tasks.
  • Commitment to advance the college’s mission, vision, values and strategic goals.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or closely related field
  • Three (3) years of experience working in talent acquisition
  • Experience working in a union environment and interpreting collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience working with applicant tracking systems and HR information systems.
  • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills sufficient to audit data and identify and correct errors.
  • Ability and commitment to collaborate and develop effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and at different levels in the college.
  • Ability to translate data effectively to support initiatives and future decision making.
