Normandy Schools Collaborative (NSC) is committed to preparing global leaders for college, career and productive citizenship by empowering a community of confident learners and valuing the unique contribution of every student.

JOB SUMMARY

To plan, organize, and implement student success in academic and interpersonal skills through academic and/or career vocational courses of study and by implementing district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Teach French at the high school , requiring background and expertise in French language, grammar, and culture. This full-time position requires experience and/or potential to teach French I-IV. Candidates should have a passion for engaging students in world language and culture and be able to contribute to a strong French program and World Language department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual differences.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to the students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Diagnose the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis and seek the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluate their job performance.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Participate in district staff development.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
  • Maintain open communication with parents.
  • perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to meet the needs of students learning at widely varied levels

  • Ability to encourage and develop both divergent and convergent thinking in students
  • Ability to develop critical thinking skills in students • Ability to apply empirical principles and procedures
  • Ability to analyze student achievement data and utilize it to drive instruction
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Balanced Literacy, Math, Project-Based/Problem-Based Learning, Inquiry Learning, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, Backwards Planning
  • Bilingual/biliterate preferred
  • A strong love for teaching
  • A desire to work with a diverse student population
  • A willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure that every child succeeds
  • Ability to demonstrate loving care for students and their futures yet also a firm personality and belief in a high level of structure
  • A strong commitment to assessment and accountability

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • A/B. S degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field teaching
  • Must have a valid Missouri teaching certificate in in content area
