JOB OBJECTIVE The NCCER Rigger is responsible for safely and efficiently moving and lifting heavy equipment, materials, and machinery at construction sites or industrial facilities. This role requires a strong understanding of rigging techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols to ensure the successful completion of lifting and rigging tasks.
Experience REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven experience as a rigger in construction or industrial settings.
  • Strong knowledge of rigging techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in using rigging tools and equipment, including cranes, hoists, forklifts, and slings.
  • Understanding of load capacities, weight distribution, and center of gravity calculations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings related to rigging operations.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform manual lifting and rigging tasks.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance standards.
  • Industrial Environment Experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
  • Rigging Operations: Perform rigging operations using appropriate techniques and equipment to safely lift, move, and position heavy equipment, materials, and machinery. This includes selecting and inspecting rigging equipment, calculating load capacities, and attaching rigging gear to the load.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate various types of equipment, such as cranes, hoists, forklifts, and aerial lifts, to facilitate rigging operations. Ensure the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of equipment in compliance with safety standards and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe work environment. Identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate safety measures to prevent accidents or injuries during rigging operations. Promote a culture of safety among team members.
  • Load Planning and Inspection: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to plan and coordinate lifting and rigging activities. Inspect loads and rigging gear for compliance with regulations, quality standards, and project requirements. Verify the weight, dimensions, and stability of loads and make necessary adjustments.
  • Communication and Documentation: Maintain clear and effective communication with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders regarding rigging operations, equipment status, and potential issues or delays. Accurately document rigging activities, inspections, equipment maintenance, and incident reports as required.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Work collaboratively with a team of construction professionals, including operators, crane operators, signalpersons, and other riggers, to ensure smooth and efficient rigging operations. Provide guidance and support to less experienced riggers as needed.
  • Training and Certification: Stay updated with industry best practices, regulations, and advancements in rigging techniques and equipment. Pursue additional certifications, such as NCCER Rigger certification, as required by the employer or industry standards.

Education RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent; Valid NCCER Rigger certification or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
  • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting.
  • Will talk and hear to communicate.
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off platforms/ scaffolding using appropriate fall protection requirements.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.
