North Andover Schools is Hiring an Athletic Trainer Near North Andover, MA

North Andover High School (NAHS) is seeking a dedicated Athletic Trainer to join our dynamic athletic program. With 31 varsity programs and over 56 teams, over 65% of our student body participates in athletics. The Athletic Trainer will serve as a crucial healthcare professional, ensuring the safety and well-being of all student-athletes. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the ideal candidate will have experience in a secondary school setting.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Injury Prevention and Care: Prevent, recognize, evaluate, and provide immediate care for athletic injuries. Oversee rehabilitation and reconditioning processes following injuries.
  • Healthcare Administration: Act as a liaison between families, student-athletes, coaches, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Ensure student-athletes participate only when medically cleared and follow all physician instructions for return to play.
  • Emergency Action Plans: Develop and review comprehensive, venue-specific emergency action plans.
  • Concussion Management: Manage the "Concussion and Head Injury Policies and Procedures" program, including administering pre-season testing (currently using the ImPACT Concussion Management program).
  • Facility and Event Coverage: Coordinate with the Director of Athletics to ensure proper coverage of the athletic training facility and all required NAHS athletic events.
  • Compliance: Understand and comply with Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, and Merrimack Valley Conference rules and regulations regarding healthcare coverage.
  • Budget Management: Assist the Director of Athletics in maintaining the annual budget for athletic training supplies and equipment.
  • Professionalism and Communication: Exemplify professionalism, foster goodwill, enforce good citizenship and sportsmanship, maintain open communication, and serve as a reliable information resource to all stakeholders.
  • Professional Development: Pursue opportunities to enhance professional performance.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other athletic and administrative duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Certification and Licensure: Must be Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC) certified and possess a state athletic training license for MA, or be license-eligible if not currently licensed.
  • Experience: Prior experience as an athletic trainer in a secondary school setting is preferred.
  • Availability: Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and be on-call as required.
  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to develop and manage individuals using a hands-on leadership approach. Exhibit flexibility, reliability, self-discipline, and a readiness to tackle challenging tasks.
  • Integrity: Maintain high standards of integrity and confidentiality, taking personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Competency: Effective time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Compliance: Ability to pass all state background check requirements and maintain a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit school employment.
Compensation: $50,000 per year
Work Year: This is a full-time, 10 -month position (mid-August to mid-June), requiring evening, weekend, and occasional holiday work.
