JOB TITLE: High School Principal - INTERIM
DATES: August 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025
LOCATION: North Andover High School
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
General DescriptionThe High School Principal provides instructional leadership to the staff, overseeing curriculum planning, review, and implementation, professional development, and the enforcement of school committee policies. The Principal is responsible for developing administrative systems and procedures to maximize the effectiveness of the high school program. The role includes day-to-day administration of the building, ensuring the safety and welfare of students, staff, and activities, maintaining a safe, pleasant, and effective educational environment, and enforcing school policies and discipline as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution, preferably with a concentration in Administration, Supervision, or Curriculum.
  • Licensure as a High School Principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • A minimum of five years of successful high school teaching or administrative experience, demonstrating strong leadership abilities.
  • Previous administrative experience is required.
  • Experience with curriculum implementation and evaluation, staff development programs, and understanding the provisions of the Education Reform Law concerning the role of the Principal.
  • Demonstrated experience with developmentally appropriate programs, interdisciplinary curriculum, and integrated Special Education programs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of special education regulations.
  • Excellent public relations skills and proven ability to relate effectively to students, parents, colleagues, and central administration.
  • Experience with developmentally appropriate social-emotional programs and/or curriculum.
  • Ability to integrate technology within the curriculum to cater to a wide range of learning styles.
  • Proven ability to engage students, staff, parents, and community members in the educational process.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Supervise high school operations to ensure compliance with School Committee policies, town by-laws, and state and federal education laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, the Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations, the Human Resources Director, and curriculum leaders on program implementation, special education services, budget management, staffing, and curriculum.
  • Develop and manage budgets responsibly, including handling externally funded grants and awards.
  • Conduct formal evaluations of staff under supervision and evaluate other staff as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Hire school staff with the Superintendent's approval.
  • Work with support staff and community agencies to develop programs for children with special needs.
  • Serve as co-chair of the School Council, overseeing the implementation and monitoring of council activities related to goals, student performance standards, the school improvement plan, and the professional development plan.
  • Work with the Administrative Cabinet on policy implementation and decision-making regarding programs, professional development, and school operations.
  • Coordinate parent and community involvement in school activities, aligning with system-wide goals.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of school programs and submit reports as required.
  • Collaborate with joint occupants of the building in compliance with state and town regulations and all School Committee policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or the building principal.
Working ConditionsWork primarily takes place in a school setting. Regular activities include sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, operating a computer and other office equipment, reaching with hands and arms, and occasionally lifting/moving up to 10 pounds.
SalaryNegotiated with the Superintendent and subject to School Committee approval.
