JOB TITLE: GROUNDS WORKER II

DIVISION: PARKS

DEPARTMENT: PARKS, RECREATION, AND TOURISM

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, maintains the Sharon Jones Amphitheater and Greeneway. Works special events programmed at the amphitheater. Removes all trash and debris from amphitheater and Greeneway. Ensures that all outdoor facilities connected to the amphitheater and Greeneway are stocked, cleaned, and in well working order. Keeps the Greeneway surface clear and safe, takes care of Greeneway right of way. Reports to the Maintenance Foreman.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Cleans the amphitheater on daily basis.

Maintains the turf grass areas of the amphitheater.

Cleans facility bathrooms for amphitheater and Greeneway.

Maintains the surface & right of way for the Greeneway.

Inspects the entire Greeneway on weekly basis for safety hazards.

Maintains the trees and removes dead limbs around amphitheater.

Works with concert & event promoters in set-up and tear down for special events at amphitheater.

Works special events in the amphitheater during the evening hours and weekends.

Services and repairs carts and equipment.

Performs minor electrical and plumbing repairs.

Runs the commercial chipper.

Assist with the street banners, signage, and Christmas decorations.

Works with public service groups with projects on the Greeneway.

Assists maintenance staff at Riverview Park.

Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including work schedules, phone calls, citizen complaints and public input.

Utilizes a variety of computer software to include Calsense,

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Maintenance Foreman, Crew Leader, Tourism & Marketing Coordinator, Facility Rental personnel, and the general public.

Operates and/or maintains a variety of machinery and equipment to include push mowers, tractors, weed eater, blower,maintenance cart and bucket trucks.

Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools such as mechanical tool sets, irrigation tool sets, multi-meters, chainsaws and edgers.

Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SAFETY FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a High School Diploma supplemented by a minimum of one year of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED

TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift/carry weights of up to 80 pounds.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, includes the receiving of information and instruction from supervisor.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of documents and reports. Requires the ability to prepare/record required records and reports using the proper format punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to read technical manuals, operating manuals, and repair manuals.

Intelligence: Has the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational backgrounds.

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to use high school geometry such as circumferences, angles, pairs of angles, properties, etc.

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape; and visually read various information.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using maintenance equipment.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, tools, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Requires the ability to make coordinated movements with hands, arms, legs and feet, e.g. ride mowing, steering, painting, weed eating, etc.

Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity: Requires the ability to match specific shades, pitch, shapes, flavors, e.g., landscaping, etc.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a slight degree.

Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Knowledge of Job: Has thorough knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures of the Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Grounds Worker II. Has knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of the City and other governmental agencies. Has knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has working knowledge of the procedures, materials, and equipment related to the maintenance of public buildings. Has knowledge in maintaining presentable, well stocked and clean facilities. Is able to perform a variety of general maintenance duties in support of the total operation of the department and Public buildings. Has working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the job. Is able to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information in the use of cleaning chemicals. Is capable of safely operating equipment and machinery. Has knowledge of and skill in the use of basic mathematics. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to use independent judgment in performing tasks. Has knowledge of how to perform duties in a courteous manner and with the utmost integrity in the best interest of the public. Is able to offer assistance to fellow employees as necessary. Has good organizational, technical, and human relations skills. Is able to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Has knowledge of how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
