North Carolina Azalea Festival is Hiring a Marketing Manager Near Wilmington, NC

Street fairs lined with vendors. Parades featuring floats, bands, civic groups, and waving pageant queens. Nationally touring musicians lighting up the stage. A massive garden party under 500-year old oaks. The mission of the North Carolina Azalea Festival is to be nationally recognized as a showcase for our community's rich array of artwork, gardens, history, and culture through recreational, educational and family-oriented events. The Festival encourages volunteerism and civic participation as it contributes to the region’s economy and promotes the unique qualities of Wilmington’s river-to-the-sea community. It’s the oldest festival of its kind in North Carolina and (in our unbiased opinion) it’s also the best.

Since 1948, a small but dedicated team of professionals have been the driving force behind the North Carolina Azalea Festival’s (NCAFs) nationally recognized continued success. The NCAF team is currently seeking a part-time Marketing Assistant to assist in the design, implementation, and coordination of all marketing pieces for the Festival.

If this sounds like a lot, it is. Each of us at NCAF wears many hats and once a year, we wear really fancy ones and enjoy the week-long event we worked so hard to make possible.

Are you passionate about the tradition of the Azalea Festival? Do you have a strong eye for design, and can communicate effectively both in print and online? Can you work under pressure, and stay organized across multiple, on-going projects? If this sounds like you, please keep reading and apply today to be NCAF’s next Marketing Assistant.

About the Role

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for organizing, managing, and executing marketing campaigns to increase Festival awareness and demand. This role is the front line of digital communications to guests, visitors, and community members. This professional will spend their time telling our story, capturing our story while at events, and marketing our events and brand.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position which functions year-round, though the Festival itself takes place in April. We are looking for someone to start immediately and work 30 hours a week. This is an in-office and on-site position, though there may be some flexibility in working some hours remotely. There will be required after-hours and weekend work during Festival events (sporadically throughout the year and Festival week: April 2-6, 2025), but don’t worry this is when all the real fun happens!

In a typical day, you would;

● Update and monitor Festival website, including researching and gathering content and creating call to

actions/sales.

● Plan, post, and monitor Festival social media accounts, including working with sponsors to plan posts for them

on Festival socials.

● Plan and manage social media contesting.

● Researching social media trends and informing management of changes relevant to Festival marketing

activities.

● Creation of all Festival e-newsletters and mass emails.

● Using social media marketing tools to create and grow the Festival’s brand.

● Perform data analytics for social media, website, emails, etc.

● Aid in the design and creation of all Festival banners, credentials/passes, etc.

● Correspond with sponsors, vendors, and Azalea Festival Committee Members as needed.

● Aid in the design and creation of graphics for social media, event flyers, website, etc.

● Aid in the design and creation of booklets/brochures.

● Display initiative in growing the Festival’s video content and presence (Youtube, TikTok, etc.).

● Handling client, vendor, and visitor interactions in a proactive and positive manner.

● Serve as staff liaison with various committees, events, and programs as assigned.

● Manage all event marketing collateral to include banners, flags, podium, etc. This includes the design, vendor

order, check-in, check-out, and on site set up, photo documentation, and tear down.

● Setting and understanding KPI’s and defining them for digital media.

We’re looking for someone who;

● Has a high attention to detail

● Is an all-star at spelling and proper grammar

● Is proficient in Wordpress

● Has 1-3 years of experience with social media management

● Has 1-3 years of experience in graphic design, preferably in Adobe software and Canva

To land this gig, you also need to:

● Have a positive attitude

● Work well under pressure

● Be extremely organized

● Have an artistic eye

● Show extreme adaptivity to workflow

● Take initiative to improve processes and procedures

● Work well in a fast-paced environment

● Possess talent for problem solving

● Display a strong commitment to superior guest service in every interaction

● Have your own transportation (you’ll be heading to event locations)

To apply, please email your resume along with relevant work portfolio to: alison@ncazaleafestival.org.
