Description of Work

NOW ELIGIBLE FOR A $7,000 SIGN ON BONUS!To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position requires specialization in two or more technical trades in connection with the maintenance of facilities, related equipment, and machinery. Position functions at the journey level in multiple skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, or similar specializations. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following:

  • Working independently while performing assigned tasks.
  • Completing work orders
  • Keeping equipment in working condition.
  • Training new staff and/or supervising the work of offenders assigned to maintenance.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

DAC is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance and Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs and Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation and Reentry.

Lumberton Correctional Institution is located in Lumberton, North Carolina and houses up to 788 male offenders in a medium custody facility.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess of the following:

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and/or materials used in the general maintenance and/or repair of buildings, equipment and/or machinery.
  • Working knowledge of low-pressure heating plant operations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
