North Carolina Department Public Safety is Hiring an Administrative Assistant Near Durham, NC

Description Of WorkThe Administrative Assistant with North Carolina Emergency Management's Public Assistance section supports the day-to-day functions of the section. This position will be responsible for retrieving USPS mail, e-mail, telephone, fax or verbal communication. The Administrative Assistant will generate reports and compile internal and external correspondence, and plan/schedule events. This position will also perform various tasks utilizing spreadsheets, database management, filing, record-keeping, preparing program-related travel logistics, assist with reconciliation of invoices and travel authorizations for management approval.
The Administrative Assistant works under the administrative and technical supervision of a section manager or Deputy or Assistant Director. The selected candidate is expected to work independently ensuring projects are completed within established objectives/deadlines.

The mission of North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) is to enhance The State of North Carolina's resiliency levels by fostering active collaboration, communication, and coordination between local, state, and federal stakeholders, as well as maintaining meaningful relationships and providing services for private citizens and commercial entities. This is achieved through promoting strategies which support efficient and effective preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery activities in response to threats from of a variety of natural and man-made hazards. NCEM is part of the NC Department of Public Safety (NCDPS).
About NCEM Public Assistance:
The North Carolina Public Assistance program provides direct assistance and customer service to state, local, and tribal governments, and eligible private non-profit agencies related to project payments, programmatic policy questions, eligibility determinations, infrastructure repair, etc.

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

  • Experience in explaining information and/or interpreting policy to clients.
  • Working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat and/or internet navigation software.
  • Experience in organizing information in an office setting.
  • Experience composing letters and/or reporting summaries.
