DEQ has an open opportunity for an Administrative Officer I.

This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.
The Fleet Manager is responsible for managing DEQ’s Motor Fleet across the state and communicating regularly with the Deputy Director about any issues or changes that may arise within the fleet. This consists of looking after Motor Fleet Telematics and Motor Fleet Services as well as tracking all on-going repairs or accidents to Motor Fleet vehicles. The position will also be responsible for the DEQ unassigned Poole Vehicle Network as well as any administrative duties related to the Motor Fleet.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Detailed understanding of NC DMV laws as applied to state vehicles.
  • Responsible for maintaining electronic reports and creating presentations.
  • Responsible for agency Motor Fleet Telematics and fleet management software.
  • Maintaining the safety of drivers, vehicles and other assets related to the commercial fleet management.

The Division of Facilities Health and Safety:
DEQ Facilities Health and Safety Division provides support to DEQ’s divisions at multiple sites across the state that includes: Property management for major buildings at Green Square, Archdale, Reedy Creek Road Complex, and dotted line responsibility for all Division of Marine Fisheries facilities; real property leases and sub-leases throughout the state, (34 sites, 850,000 sq. ft.) facility related contracts, DOTS tickets, office relocations, Motor Fleet and Department owned vehicles, boats, motors, trailers, planes, drones, mobile devices, security, parking, and insurance. The Division is responsible for all aspects of DEQ’s Capital Project Planning and Management, DEQ’S Safety Program, The Stewardship of over 400 Land Easements and 5,000 acres of State Game Lease Land.

Recruitment Range: $42,464 - $54,796

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies


To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess
ALL of the following:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of motor vehicle laws, regulations, or policies at either a state or federal level.
  • Demonstrated experience with Motor Fleet Telematics and/or fleet management software.
  • Demonstrated experience with commercial fleet management.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in HR, budgeting, research or administrative management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
