Description of Work

The Inventory Assistant position will perform a variety of clerical and manual tasks in the requisitioning, receiving, storing, and issuing of supplies, materials, and equipment. Work may involve heavy lifting. Employees assist in the operation of a stock room independently. Work is performed in accordance with established stock keeping procedures, but requires the use of some judgment in identifying stock, substituting stock items, and selecting and requisitioning new supplies as required. Work is evaluated through occasional physical check of items stored and accuracy of records maintained. Job responsibilities include the following:

  • Receives authorized requisitions or oral requests for supplies and equipment; identifies and selects requested items by physical inspection or requisitions non-unit items from itemized lists of supplies.
  • Delivers materials to authorized personnel.
  • Supervises and participates in assembling, packing, and shipping a variety of material and supplies.
  • Assists in receiving, storing, and issuing supplies.
  • Maintains an inventory showing the date, number and type of supplies received or issued; keeps a running balance of stock on hand.
  • Assists in estimating needed stock and prepares necessary requisitions and purchase orders.
  • May function in a lead role.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Work Hours: 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. (Every fourth weekend)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Ability to operate appropriate equipment (pallet jack).
  • Ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain routine clerical records.
  • Ability to conduct manual inventory counts and make accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Physical strength sufficient to lift and move relatively heavy objects.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or university.
