Recruitment Range: $36,682 - $42,937
This is a range. Selected candidate's salary will be determined within this range based on qualifications, equity, and funding at the time of hire.

Primary Purpose of this Position:
The North Carolina Aquariums at Pine Knoll Shores isseeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Administrative Specialist I. This position is responsible for the preparation/completion of paperwork for new employees per guidelines from the central office, orientations for both full-time and part-time employees, the distribution of any benefits information to all employees, compilation and updates of new employee handbooks and handouts, the updating of personal information, such as addresses, name changes etc, for all staff, explaining the guidelines for entering information into the Integrated HR Payroll system, including timesheets, demonstrations when necessary and maintenance of personnel files for all employees.
Daily Duties include:
  • Responsible for working with employees to resolve HR issues.
  • Responsible to ensure the temporary staff, if required, takes the mandatory 35-day break-in-service.
  • Process the paperwork for new hires, transfers, and reinstatements.
  • Responsible for all the general office operations, such as maintaining the working order of all office equipment.
  • Responsible for recording minutes, travel requests, Workmen’s Compensation claims prepared according to central office guidelines, and any documents or forms prepared at the request of the Director/Business Manager/Curators or Managers.
  • Responsible for daily mail.
  • Responsible for the ordering of office supplies.
  • Assists the Director’s by compiling and distributing weekly schedules for the Director and Curators/Managers.
  • As the first contact for many visitors, this position must keep updated on the daily program activities going on in the Aquarium to answer visitor’s questions.
  • Responsible for answering phone calls in a courteous, articulate manner and forwarding them to the appropriate staff.
  • Participates in the special events required by the Aquarium.
Position/Physical Requirements:
  • Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid NC driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is located 6 miles from Morehead City, NC, on Bogue Banks, sits adjacent to Bogue Sound. A living collection of over 2,500 animals in 90,000 square feet of exhibit space attracts and engages over 400,000 visitors each year. The Aquarium is located in the middle of Roosevelt Natural Area, a state park of maritime forest and wetland ecosystems.
