The Mission of the Department of Public Instruction:
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for a Business Services Coordinator II (Working Title: Business Service Coordinator) within the Office of Operations.
The Office of Operations was created to better serve the NC Department of Public Instruction internal staff and provide a higher level of customer service to public school units and external partners. This office, reporting through the Division of the Chief of Staff, is led by a Director of Operations who oversees a team of Business Officers, Administrative Officers, and Business Service Coordinators that focus on financial and procurement actions that support the daily operation of the Division.
The Business Services Coordinator position reports to a Business Officer and will be assigned to provide support to the Division of School and District Support. This position will provide support for the Office of School Nutrition and is responsible for coordinating and tracking the life cycle of financial activities, such as purchases, travel reimbursements, and contracts. The Business Services Coordinator may work with various cost centers to track funding streams (which could include grants, state appropriations, and receipts) and will ensure the financial integrity of funding is maintained. Work involves coordinating the provision of a full range of financial support and actions necessary for the effective management of the Office.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Demonstrated experience with coding and/or tracking invoices.
  • Demonstrated experience reconciling and/or resolving financial discrepancies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing and/or purchasing systems.
Management Preferences:
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State purchasing guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience working within Microsoft Excel.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of business administration.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school of General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
