North Carolina Dept of Transportation is Hiring a Vehicle/Equipment Repair Supervisor I Near Duplin County, NC

Description of Work

This position is for a Vehicle/Equipment Repair Supervisor I for the Kenansville Equipment Subshop located in Duplin County. Positions in this class will be responsible for supervising Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technicians (VERTs) and other semi-skilled trade personnel. The position will be responsible for creating equipment repair work orders and monitoring work orders for correct information. Other responsibilities include scheduling all 5K PM's, annual PM's, and all daily equipment repairs. The employee in this position must ensure all maintenance and repairs are completed timely, accurately, and safely for the Unit. The employee will communicate daily with the Division Equipment Superintendent and/or Fleet Manager reporting costs exceeding allowable repair costs. The position must identify and order all parts for repairs and monitor parts inventory on a daily basis. The position is responsible for assigned lube trucks bi-weekly fuel and lube inventory. The position will conduct daily and monthly safety meetings. The position is responsible for applicable monthly spreadsheets/reports. Emergency call back required as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience using SAP to create, manage, and close repair orders
  • Experience working with internal customers and outside vendors to complete daily work activities
  • Experience in safety policies and procedures as they apply to shop functions including a basic knowledge of OSHA requirements
  • Knowledge of the proper tools and equipment needed to successfully operate a fleet repair and maintenance facility
  • Experience in applying best practices as it relates to housekeeping techniques needed to maintain a vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance facility
Additional Expectations:

The employee will be required to promote a safe work environment. The employee must have the ability to supervise and direct employees in the maintenance and repair of light, medium, and heavy duty trucks and construction equipment. The employee must have the ability to diagnose problems with diagnostic tools and confirm that proper repairs are completed. The employee will be required to maintain accurate records and reports of work accomplished. The employee will be expected to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, vendors, etc. The employee must have the ability to work in emergency situations and inclement weather. The employee must be able to legally operate a State vehicle.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the repair of vehicles and/or equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
