Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

• Experience using SAP to create, manage, and close repair orders
• Experience working with internal customers and outside vendors to complete daily work activities
• Experience in safety policies and procedures as they apply to shop functions including a basic knowledge of OSHA requirements
• Knowledge of the proper tools and equipment needed to successfully operate a fleet repair and maintenance facility
• Experience in applying best practices as it relates to housekeeping techniques needed to maintain a vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance facility

The employee will be required to promote a safe work environment. The employee must have the ability to supervise and direct employees in the maintenance and repair of light, medium, and heavy duty trucks and construction equipment. The employee must have the ability to diagnose problems with diagnostic tools and confirm that proper repairs are completed. The employee will be required to maintain accurate records and reports of work accomplished. The employee will be expected to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, vendors, etc. The employee must have the ability to work in emergency situations and inclement weather. The employee must be able to legally operate a State vehicle.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the repair of vehicles and/or equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
