Essential Job Duties
The Business Officer position will work with the Clinical Trial Post Award team to coordinate with key stakeholders across clinical research and sponsors to enhance revenue collection and act as a Research Billing Quality Control Business Officer.
The Business Officer will oversee quality checks of Oncore data and other systems used for billing purposes for the Clinical Trial Post-award unit. The Business Officer will also broadly apply clinical knowledge, including reviewing hospital and physician billing and advising Fund Analysts/accountants on how to proceed with payment.
The Business Officer will perform clinical trial project accounts reconciliation quality maintenance, provide Oncore reports relating to financial data, and analyze issues. The list includes but is not limited to:
  • Check that attributes are correctly captured and translated into OnCore to optimize available resources.
  • Understand and interpret complex clinical trial budgets and advise Funds Analysts/Accountants.
  • Understand payment term arrangements for clinical research funding received by the University from federal, private, for-profit, and not-for-profit sponsors.
  • Ensure contract and budget terms are incorporated into OnCore.
  • Work with pre- and post-award teams to ensure all financial terms within OnCore are accurate against the Billing Coverage Analysis, Clinical Trial Agreement, Amendments, Informed Consent Forms, etc.
  • Stay current with all software modifications for OnCore affecting financials, patient care, and patient billing.

Other Work/Responsibilities
The Business Officer position manages and tracks billing areas for the study. The Business Officer will develop the knowledge and skills to understand OnCore and EPIC software clinical research functionality to help with all revenue areas.

Bachelor and 1-3 years experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of the clinical trials lifecycle is required. Minimum one year experience in a clinical trial setting with various types of sponsors and industry-funded clinical budgets. Ability to multi-task and prioritize high-volume workload with minimal supervision while maintaining a positive and collaborative approach. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills and organizational abilities are essential, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Epic. Ability to work effectively and independently managing tasks in a fast-paced environment. Team player who can work independently, prudently, and collaboratively. Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manipulate and understand complex information. Practical organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
