OverviewWe seek a dedicated and compassionate Social Worker/Family Liaison to join our team. This critical role will focus on supporting our students who are unhoused or experiencing housing instability in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and students experiencing food insecurity. The ideal candidate will be culturally competent, highly knowledgeable about issues unhoused students encounter, empathetic and asset-centered toward the needs of vulnerable populations, and skilled in collaborating with diverse stakeholders to provide comprehensive support to students and families; multilingualism is also preferred. Key Responsibilities
Identification and Outreach:
Collaborate with school staff, community organizations, and local agencies to identify students who are unhoused or experiencing housing instability.
Conduct outreach to families to raise awareness of available resources and support services under the McKinney-Vento Act.
Ensure accurate and timely identification and documentation of eligible students.
Enrollment Assistance:
Assist unhoused students and their families with school enrollment, ensuring access to educational opportunities and support services.
Provide guidance on school selection, transportation options, and enrollment procedures to remove barriers to education.
Case Management and Support Services:
Provide individualized case management to unhoused students and families, addressing academic, social, and emotional needs.
Connect students and families with community resources such as housing assistance, healthcare, food assistance, and counseling services.
Advocate for students' rights to access educational services, including transportation, school supplies, extracurricular activities, and access to weekend food programs, etc.
School Stability and Success:
Collaborate with school personnel to minimize student education disruptions and promote school stability.
Facilitate communication between schools, families, and community agencies to ensure coordinated support for unhoused students.
Training and Awareness:
Provide training and professional development to school staff, community partners, and families on the rights and needs of unhoused and vulnerable students.
Raise awareness about unhousedness issues and the McKinney-Vento Act within the school and broader communities.
