Position Purpose:
The ER Tech serves in a role as a Patient Care Technician, EKG Technician, and relief Health Unit Coordinator. The ER Tech functions under the direction of the Charge Nurse.
In the Patient Care Technician (PCT) role, the ER Tech performs routine patient care duties within the limits of his/her training and certification including (but not limited to): vital signs, personal hygiene, physical activity, patient transport, obtaining lab specimen such as urine, performing point-of care testing such as Accu-check, and recording of patient data in medical record. In this role, the ER Tech also has the responsibility to round on patients, greet and direct all visitors, answer phones, take messages, complete daily patient log, assist with ordering supplies, assist with diet delivery and patient meal set-up, and other tasks as directed by Charge Nurse and/ or ED Director/Manager.
In the EKG Technician role, the ER Tech performs 12-lead EKG, connects bedside monitor on new patients, and connects telemetry monitor on patients for admission.
In the relief Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) role, the ER Tech assumes this role as assigned or in the absence of the HUC. Responsibilities include all tasks as listed in the HUC job description.
