North Smithfield School DepartmentJOB DESCRIPTIONPosition Title:JUNIOR VARSITY/ASSISTANT COACHReports to:Head Coach/Athletic Director/Building AdministratorApproved by:Superintendent of SchoolsDate: 12/2/09; 4/16/18POSITION SUMMARY:To carry out the aims and objectives of the program as outlined by the Head Coach.To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.QUALIFICATIONS:Rhode Island Certification as Secondary Teacher preferableValid Rhode Island Coaches’ CertificateValid first aid and CPR certificateNFHS certificationTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Annual appointmentSalary to be established by the North Smithfield School CommitteeEVALUATION:Evaluated by the Head Coach and Athletic Director.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:1.ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIESAssist the Head Coach with scheduling.Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices.Fulfill state, league, and school system requirements.Refer all requests or grievances from students and/or parents through proper channels.If no parent representatives are in place to attend NSAA meetings, the Junior Varsity/Assistant Coach must attend scheduled NSAA meetings during the season in order to obtain funding for the specific sport. 2.STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIESMaintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program.Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use.Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.Responsible for conduct of student athletes at all home/away games/meets as well as the bus trip to and from all away games/meets.3.EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES RESPONSIBILITIESAccountable for all equipment and submit annual inventory to the Head Coach.Recommend budgetary items for next year in his/her area of the program to the Head Coach.Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games.Provide security prior to leaving building.4.PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIESAssist the Head Coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities.Maintain a record of team statistics.Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the Head Coach and the Athletic Director.Attend all staff meetings and carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the Head Coach.5.OTHERPerform such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and requested by the Athletic Director or Head Coach.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONSEnvironmental conditions are a means of describing the physical surroundings of a worker in a specific job.
