Engineering Data Specialist
Section 1 – Position Summary
Under general supervision, provides direct Project Management Information System (PMIS) reporting support for Engineering staff and systems of the District. Builds strong relationships with internal customers to understand customer needs in order to support more efficient and effective use of the PMIS system, the development of better business practices, and the development of reports.
Section 2 – Major Responsibilities
1. Provides report writing and support for operational and institutional effectiveness using ProjectMates, Excel and Power BI reporting tools.
2. Ensures the accuracy of reports by working with data owners, performing data audits, and regularly reviewing soundness of owned reports.
3. Designs and executes solutions for common challenges such as system configuration, data entry auditing, business process efficiencies, and reporting within the context of owned applications.
4. Provides support in business process design as it effects data gathering and entry.
5. Works with other Project Controls team members to define, develop, and test integrations between owned systems.
Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Must be dependable and possess superior communication skills. Team-oriented with demonstrated high level of interpersonal and conflict resolution ability is necessary.
2. Solid background with Excel, Power Query, and Power BI, with the ability to quickly learn the ProjectMates project controls system.
3. Must possess a working knowledge of engineering design and construction terminology, with proven understanding of basic construction project workflow and scheduling concepts.
4. Requires independent work to gather and process information from multiple sources and develop recommendations to management.
5. Must have mathematical, technical, and database ability with sharp observation to detail.
6. Ability and willingness to quickly learn new technologies and software, at times without formal training.
7. Able to manage basic projects through analysis of requirements, priority and task management, collaboration, ongoing communication, and a drive to deliver quality solutions.
Section 4 – Education and Experience
1. Associate’s degree in computer science, information technology, or business/ finance major from an accredited college; Relevant Associate's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
2. Two or more years working with EAMS, CMMS, ERP, HRIS and/ or CRM
3. Two or more years of relevant work experience using relational databases, data retrieval, and ad- hoc reporting tools (SQL and SQL Reporting Services)
Section 5 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment
This position requires moderate physical exertion with lifting requirements up to 10 pounds daily. Duties carried out mostly in an office environment with occasional visits to active construction sites. Working conditions could include occasional exposure to weather, gases and fumes. Tools or equipment used include vehicles, computer, calculator, safety equipment, and phone.
