Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency is Hiring a School Success Behavior Tech-Besser Elementary Near Alpena, MI

What You’ll Do:
  • Update direct supervisor on an ongoing basis regarding concerns, issues and caseload;
  • Develop and enhance communication, networking, and collaboration between parents, schools, and community agencies;
  • Provide supportive services and follow-up activities both in the home and school environments;
  • Upon receipt of a referral, convene a meeting of all involved parties to cooperatively develop an action plan and schedule the first home visit;
  • Schedule and keep home visits with parents on a minimum bi-weekly basis to gather information, facilitate goal setting and assist in problem solving;
  • Promote strategies for parent/guardian involvement in school related activities;
  • Foster a positive and open working relationship between parents and the school;
  • Meet with teachers weekly in the school setting to assess progress and make necessary adjustments in action plans;
  • Meet weekly with referred students in the school setting;
  • Represent the agency, school district and program in a professional manner at all times;
  • Seek consultation and make referrals to community agencies as needed;
  • Provide services coordination for families who have involvement with multiple agencies;
  • Maintain required records and documentation for caseload and informal support tasks, including Formstack data entry as required by supervisor;
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required by supervisor;
  • Participate in inter-agency groups and committees when possible;
  • Act as truancy liaison in your individual building(s) to ensure students are attending on a regular basis;
  • Act as a facilitator for any classroom presentations on an as needed basis;
  • Act as a facilitator for any groups (i.e., divorce, friendship, COA, etc.) on an as needed basis.
  • The School Success Behavior Technician will serve as a vital member of a school’s behavior team by assisting with the implementation of Tier 3 strategies for students who require an intensive level of behavioral support in order to be successful in a school setting:
  • Supports teachers and instructional assistants in implementing Tier 3 interventions and strategies that are identified by the Problem Solving Team or qualified staff.
  • Provides direct coaching support to instructional assistants who are assigned to students with intensive behavioral needs – by modeling, teaching, and or requesting professional development.
  • Supports school staff in Tier 3 data collection on individual students including progress monitoring and intervention history.
  • Is a Key Identified Personnel who is trained in proper restraint methods.
  • Understands the law that outlines protocol for seclusion and restraint.
  • Understands the seven factors that need to be considered before suspending a student.
  • Participate in monthly behavior monitoring meetings with classroom teachers, instructional assistants, SSF, and special education teacher if applicable.
  • Support classrooms in implementing any strategies that are outcomes of behavior monitoring meetings.
  • Respond and teach individual students who require Tier 3 behavioral support in a designated space using pre-identified materials to teach lagging skills (i.e. social/emotional, anger management, executive functioning, etc.). This teaching will be either in response to a severe behavior incident or as a schedule break outline in a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
  • Assist with the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and BIP process by providing input when requested, ensuring plans are up to date and administered with fidelity.
  • Follow up with students who have re-entered the school community on a regular basis.
  • Utilize restorative questioning when interviewing students to determine if they feel empathy in order to repair the harm they have caused.
  • Inform administrative discipline by making recommendations for student based on whether or not they have the empathy required to repair the harm.
  • Maintains positive communication with parents of students who require Tier 3 supports if directed.
  • Participates as needed in IEP or 504 meetings.
  • Teach required lessons to students who have BIP.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Coordinate efforts with School Success Liaison.
  • Seek support from APS Student Support Facilitator (SSF), AMA Itinerant Staff, building principal and on individual students.
  • Participate in Restorative Practice training.
  • Advocate for at-risk students.
  • Maintain proper substitute teaching credentials

What We’ll Love About You:

B.A. or B.S. in Social Work, Guidance and Counseling, Sociology, Psychology or related human service field is required. 1 -2 years experience working with school age children preferred. An education degree with appropriate course work and/or experience will be considered.
