Northeast Valley Health Corporation is Hiring a Medical Assistant I - STD HIV Program Near Los Angeles, CA

Under the clinical supervision of the Licensed Medical Provider, the Medical Assistant (MA) I will perform non-invasive, routine technical support services related to therapeutic and diagnostic functions in the STD Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment Program funded by the Division of HIV and STD Programs (DHSP). Also, the MA I assists with client check-in and intake, instructs clients regarding labs and injections, and advises clients about test results and medication to treat STDs per orders of the medical provider. Furthermore, the MA I works in collaboration with the Licensed Vocational Nurse in the STD program in a variety of administrative tasks associated with reporting to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Partner Services, and the Division of HIV and STD Programs (DHSP.) The Medical Assistant also provides a variety of administrative assistive and supportive clinical and outreach activities.
Reports ToDirect & Administrative:
Registered Nurse Supervisor or Program Manager or HIV Program Administrator.
Professional / TechnicalRegistered Nurse Supervisor in consultation with the Licensed Medical Provider
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
  • Completion of state-approved training for Medical Assistants and training (Calif. Business & Professional Code 2069, 2070; and Calif. Code of Regulations 1377, 1377.1) relating to the performance of injections, skin testing, and withdrawal of blood.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and medical providers.
  • Ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision, thoroughness, and efficiency.
  • Must have a pleasant, patient-oriented attitude and a professional appearance.
  • Must have sensitivity and respect for the different cultures represented among all staff.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the electronic health record database within three months of attending training session(s).
  • Must complete the NEVHC 15-hour Medical Terminology course within 1 year of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities for tasks to work effectively despite interruptions and under minimal supervision. Self-starter, reliable, and dependable.
  • Must maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification in compliance with corporate CPR policy.
  • Display qualities of dependability and reliability, willingness to accept a variety of tasks, and ability to comprehend quickly and follow instructions accurately.
  • Must communicate tactfully and empathetically, with cultural sensitivity with staff and patients, including sensitivity competency working with HIV-positive patients and patients at risk for HIV/STIs.
  • Be well-groomed and display mature behavior
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of NEVHC and its patients.
  • Must maintain or exceed competency levels as established by corporate standards for clinical practice.
  • Must demonstrate through written and oral testing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and have knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Also, the MA I must identify and cate-gorize each patient's age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patients.
  • Fluency in English (speak, read, and write).
  • Fluency in Spanish (speak, translate, read, and write).
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and other patient/client information.
  • Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage, and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
