The Northern Light EMMC Echo Tech Sponsorship program consists of the following benefits:
1. Employees accepted into the program will be awarded full tuition (less financial aide) paid to one of the following programs- Jackson College, Washburn University, the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Allied health Sciences or Southern Maine Community College.
2. During the sponsorship timeframe, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center will pay for the employee to attend class, labs and study, up to 24 hours per week while school is in session.
3. During the sponsorship timeframe, the employee will work 16 hours per week while school is in session. Employees accepted into the program will be considered full time and will be eligible to receive full time benefits. When school is not in session, employees will work full time or utilize paid time off.
4. At the completion of the program and certification, the employee promises to remain a Full Time Echo Tech with Northern Light Health for 5 years as a Certified Cardiac Sonographer.
5. Participants will sit for the ARDMS (preferred-Adult Echo & Process Instrumentation Registry) or CCI Registry in Adult Echo within 1 year of eligibility.
6. A person in the Echo Tech Sponsorship should have a HS Diploma or GED. Also, a person should be enrolled in an approved Cardiac Sonographer Program or have documentation of eligibility for admittance into a program with application pending. Approved programs include: Jackson College, Washburn University, the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Allied health Sciences or Southern Maine Community College.

Summary :
The Echo Cardiology Sponsorship position is a Cardiac Sonographer in training who is responsible for learning and performing diagnostic-quality echocardiographic studies in a fast paced environment and. This is achieved through order verification, patient identification, use and maintenance of equipment, imaging according to policies and protocols, interpretation of findings and creating a preliminary report. In alignment with the mission and vision of Eastern Maine Medical Center, the Cardiac Ultrasound Technician will: • Perform proper patient preparation and education which may begin prior to the patient arrival • Collaborate professionally and effectively with members of the interdisciplinary care team, providing safe, quality, efficient patient care across the lifespan, with particular attention to the patient's age-related cognitive, emotional, physical, and functional needs • Be knowledgeable of age specific protocols • Be flexible to cover a variety of shifts with weekend, holiday and non-restricted call duties required as needed • Adhere to hospital policy and professional standards of practice • Must have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills and be a demonstrated team player. Must demonstrate reliability and accountability to team members and patients
Responsibilities :

Is responsible for obtaining information from all mandatory training, communications, and staff meetings; either through attendance or by reading and initialing documents in the mandatory memo book. Acts as a role model and resource for all staff in regards to safe radiation and/or infection control practices. Operates in the framework of existing departmental policies and procedures, Maintains up to date knowledge of the operation of all equipment and ensures equipment is maintained in a clean environment and all quality assurance programs are followed. Provides comprehensive documentation and maintains accurate charts and records. Works within the guidelines of EMMC's ALARA program to protect patients and personnel from radiation hazards. Strives to improve communication to facilitate total quality care of the patient. Seeks to improve or maximize positive patient experience opportunities. Seeks to improve efficiency of departmental operations with customer expectations as the focus. Educates the patient about the procedure and effectively manages the patient's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Protects patient confidentiality per EMMC's policies. Complies with the supervisor instructions regarding adjustments to staffing levels based on changes in procedural volume demands. Demonstrates proper use and care of equipment to prevent unnecessary damage or replacement. Ensures accurate charge capture and correct FINs are used during procedural documentation. Ensures exam completion functions are performed in a timely fashion to allow for time reporting and billing.
