HOMELESS OUTREACH NAVIGATOR JOB LISTING

Northlake Homeless Coalition is seeking an Outreach Navigator for the Florida Parishes Region (Livingston, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington Parishes). The Homeless Outreach Navigator will identify and build rapport with homeless individuals and families living on the streets, in vehicles or in other places not meant for human habitation. Navigators will assist clients in breaking the cycle of homelessness by accessing necessary social services and obtaining permanent housing.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work preferred or equivalent experience in a related field.

· Two years in street outreach experience.

· Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office. HMIS experience preferred.

· Project a professional demeanor.

· Able to work independently and as a part of the team.

· Exercises mature judgment.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Must maintain and execute confidential information.

· Treat persons experiencing homelessness with dignity and respect.

· Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities.

· Good problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

Requirements

· This program will operate under the Housing First program model. The successful candidate should have knowledge of the principles of Housing First and be able to provide assistance according to the program model.

· This position requires familiarity with the Florida Parishes Region in order to be able to identify homeless persons and connect them with appropriate social services resources.

· Successful completion of background screening.

Working Conditions/Hours

· The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations and potentially hostile situations.

· This position works 40hrs/week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Occasional night and weekend shifts required.
